I guess I never realized the severity of his sickness until they told me they were admitting him to ICU. One of my girls had what we thought was allergies that turned into a cold. No big deal, right? Not so much with our medical kids. A friend lost her child to RSV last year. About the same time Josiah is recovering another mom from my support group lost her cerebral palsy 4yr old warrior to RSV. It sunk in deep when I read that. So close. So similar. I felt that impact before I even read that as I drove to choa the night he was transferred from the local er. I thought deep thoughts of how it would feel to not drive home with my warrior buddy. To go home to all our memories, but not him. Just thinking that, writing that, in this moment, causes a deep pit in my stomach. Oh the walk we walk as parents. As medically fragile parents. It’s HARD. So many what ifs I would do differently. So many moments I would hold him more. Kiss on him more. God gave me more moments with him and he is home with me. I am thankful for that. Let’s please remember the parents that don’t have that luxury. Let’s keep them ever in our thoughts and prayers.. Also, if you have someone you know that has a child like my son, be there for them. Give them words of strength and lift them up when days like last week happen. We need it. It takes a village to raise my tribe. I have a pretty awesome village.
