The shadows of it all
Characters: Lorenzo de Medici x Y/N reader
summary: being the wife of Lorenzo de Medici has not been an easy tasks.
It has always been what you knew was true about Lorenzo. All his knowledge, which brought him a clear mind and power, lead him to have a way with words. Additionally he was the heir of the Medici name. Thus everyone knew him and most loved him. So it was no surprise for you when, shortly after the wedding, you were left alone. You must have spent weeks, months waiting for your newly wed husband to spent the littlest time with you. Of course he claimed to have been disturbed with buissness, but you knew that, even Messer Medici must have time for his family.
It was also no surprise that Giuliano had become a friend of yours. Often times, he found you, somewhere along the house, the garden or in Florenz. Most times you tried to let the regret of having brought yourself into this miserable situation be vanished by good thoughts. But more than often Giuliano had seen you cry, shed a tear when you were told that “no Messer Medici will not join you for dinner this night”.
Giuliano was nearly in the same situation as you were. Two lost souls, forced to be alone, not knowing what their place in the world might hold for them. It was relieving, to have someone who understood and cared for your situation. But as the time went on you could not let Giuliano tell you your husband would one day see the truth. And you saw Giuliano turn into a, even more, lost soul. Once Lorenzo broke off whatever it was, he tried to be there for his family. And although you wanted to be part of it, finally feel like what it was like to be a wife, you knew that Giuliano needed his help first. So when you were at the dinner table and Giuliano again was not there, you felt it was only right to step in.
“Messer Medici, wouldn’t it be a good idea to give your brother a task? I think he needs a purpose.” You asked while cutting the food on your plate. Madonna looked at you carefully, but she felt the same.
“Y/N I told you. You should call me Lorenzo, and I don’t think he is able to have a task, when all he ever does is fool around.” Lorenzo said while throwing his fist on the table forcing the loud noice to echo through the dining room.
“There is nothing else he can do when all he wants is being noticed. By the one person he has looked up to since he was a child might I add.” You said while looking directly into his eyes. You could not let yourself be seen unsure. Giuliano needed his brother’s help. Lorenzo didn’t answer. Instead he looked at you with a stoic expression and continued to eat. “With all this knowledge and wise words you hold yourself with everyday in front of the people of Florence, you would think Lorenzo de Medici cares for his family equally as much as for his business. But perhaps it is what the people say and the truth cannot be seem by all. If you do not wish to see me I will feel free with it someday. I will do as I was told and I will help you lead Florenz. But I will not let you destroy your family.” And with that you left, saying good night to Lucrezia on your way out. Lorenzo was furious and somewhat sorry. He never wanted for you to feel so far away of the Medici family. And his brother has always been the person to hold his back. He needed to help him and then, fix his marriage.
