Donna is still doing her absolute very best to act as natural as possible around the eleventh incarnation of her Spaceman, to behave the exactly the way she does around the forelock rather than the flopped fringe, but no matter how hard she tries ( and maybe that’s the point of error — trying, forcing it ), no matter how much she wants to, she just isn’t able to.And this is simply because she feels guilty.In hindsight, she now realizes how very much she has wronged him initially, and his often displayed current surprise at her displays at affection, now that she’s adjusted her attitude, tears her right through the heart in resenment — for herself. She realizes the only way to fix this is by treating him exactly like she treats Tenth, but due to her initial aggression, it seems he’s come to treat her general jabs as genuine spite, and thus she’s become very afraid of making them. She really doesn’t want to hurt him anymore. He’s gone through enough — even minus her poor mouth at him — and she’d just like to make him feel better. Feel loved. But her going about tiptoe not to harm him is easily mistaken for her distancing herself in dislike, and thus she simply hasn’t been able to.
