What’s your OC’s go-to aesthetic for a ball? Is it consistent or varied? What’s their goal behind this? are they just trying to fit in, to distract, to mislead?
Sabine was found during a Hunt Ball on Wintersend and for most of her young life, fully believed Hunt Balls were thrown specifically for them (as a teen she knew they weren’t, but felt like they should be). She has crashed many a ball, and has built up an extensive wardrobe to support that hobby.
Their approach to formal clothing is to take the Mourn Watch’s typical extravagance and then dial it up to 11. She favours rich textured fabrics in black, white, burgundy, and green, paired with excessive amounts of grave gold. Also playing fast and loose with traditionally masc and fem elements and styles, but overall must be flowy and dramatic. She also loves to incorporate Nevarran motifs, especially when attending balls in other regions of Thedas (beetle-work in particular). [I especially love ramping up the existing Classical Egyptian and Art Deco/ Egyptian Revival elements inherent to the Nevarran & Mourn watch designs in game and in the art book, it’s just so juicy!]
Regardless of their personal style, she will always be on theme for the ball she’s attending. 🖤
Sabine always wears their hair up, most frequently in braids. She often incorporates beads, ribbons, and jewels into the more elaborate styles, and even occasionally adds small bells to enhance the jingling and clinking of the other jewellery. Their favourite styles are complex and layered, and leave their ears uncovered for earrings and cuffs.
Pre-Veilguard, and really before the War of the Banners, she would’ve said their goal at a ball was to be noticed, coveted even. Not with the goal of finding a partner, just for the feeling of being desired. Post-Veilguard, that still holds true but more from a place of desire herself, and getting to show off her darlings Lucanis and Emmrich.
Where are you most likely to find your OC during a ball? Balcony? Bar? Spying behind privacy screens?
Sabine’s first stop at a ball is always the bar. This gives them the chance to mingle, look over the ball programme/ dance card for the evening (possibly secure a few dances), and learn any new hot gossip. After that, she will be in the middle of the action to dance the night away! (Because really, what else is a ball for, aside from looking gorgeous)
What’s their opinion on dancing? Do they have a favorite type of dance?
Sabine absolutely LOVES dancing! She’ll try to convince anyone she’s with to come dance as well. While not their favourite type of dance (that honor belongs to the Branle!) she adores the tradition of the midnight Quadrille. While she prefers upbeat fast paced dances, she won’t skip a dance just because it’s slow.
