Self Directed Practice #2: Medium Unspecific
Title: Beautiful Mess
11 X 14 canvas
Materials: Acrylic paint, ink, makeup
Based on my previous introduction piece, this work aims to include a bit more diversity on the facial features of women. My goal was to give a sense of “a beautiful mess.” I chose to go with the medium of painting, while also including more untraditional materials such as makeup (eyeshadows, concealer, and lipstick), since my original piece was also influenced by a makeup company. There is also some mark-making I included in the piece by adding my own lip marks, which is something I really love from the printmaking-etching technique. I kept the images of the women relatively small (just as my previous) to have the viewer have to lean in and focus on the details of their faces. This theme of ‘diversity of women’ is one that is still in process and I hope to be able to accomplish a more direct sense of this diversity.
