And all I can do is count the ticking clock. The outcome was decided weeks ago, I know. Yet it feels like all the prayers and collective good vibes from family and friends just might make a difference. At the very least five years of my own dogged determination will be proven worthy or fall short tomorrow 12 ET. Oh the cruel few moments that is the unveiling of the CARMS Match. If I could be someone in medicine it would be Atul Guwande. I love his TED talks and now he's a Reith Lecturer so enjoy! I don't know how he finds the time to do all he does but it is certainly a greatness to aspire to.
Back in 1980, the World Health Organization officially declared that one of the deadliest diseases in human history, smallpox, had been eradicated. This marked the first time that a disease had been completely eliminated from the planet. Achieving this was certainly no mean feat. It took an enormous collaborative effort, mostly involving global vaccination campaigns, surveillance and prevention measures.
Another one bites the dust without medicines or vaccines. Simply plastic tubes and health education!
