Daemon
Daemon is one of the four heads of The Circus and the group’s muscle. An old and powerful halfling, he knows a wide array of offensive and defensive spells based in dark and light magics. If certain rumors are to be believed, however, Daemon isn’t a cross with a human, but something else entirely, which would make him an exceptionally rare being indeed.
Little is known about Daemon’s origins. What is known is that he’s a few centuries old, at least. While in dragon years he would be somewhere in his late 20′s to early 30′s relatively speaking, as a non-human halfling, his lifespan far exceeds that of ordinary dragons and halflings. Regardless, he is the oldest member of The Circus’ leadership by a country mile.
Like his co-founders, Daemon was involved in the Central Park Incident back in 2015. He’s looked up to by a lot of people in the organization for being calm and level-headed, and plays a mentor role with a lot of the group’s members, including his inner circle. He seems to have a particularly close relationship with Jace, another one of the group leaders and one of the youngest active members of The Circus.
It isn’t known what Daemon got up to before The Circus was founded. As a natural born shapeshifter, he can radically alter his appearance and change identities at will, and has likely held many different names in every era he’s been alive. The Daemon identity appears to be his newest one, and its history doesn’t extend back much further than The Circus itself does.
As a halfling, Daemon has access to the full suite of dragon abilities. He appears to be descended from a Mountain Dragon, as that is the form he takes when transformed, and he’s naturally aligned with the element of Fire. His flames are referred to by those in the organization as Hellfire, and are pitch black in color and intensely hot. They’re capable of reducing any substance to ash, even things that ordinarily would not burn, such as iron and steel.
Like Rave and his other two co-founders, Daemon takes part in the occasional bit of mercenary work. He’s considered the heaviest hitter in the organization, and his role is to act as a liaison with the drakan community and lead what dragons and halflings are involved in The Circus’ activities. He’s put his centuries of life to good use, and is knowledgeable in a great many things, including drakan history, mythology, and sociology. He is a highly respected member of NYC’s drakan community and an authority on these three subjects.
Daemon is also the only member of The Circus’ leadership known to have any sort of religious affiliation. Perhaps ironically, given his chosen name, he is a devout Catholic. It’s said he runs a few churches in the city, and that in one of his past lives, he became an ordained bishop. He rarely exercises the authority that role affords him, however, preferring to act instead as a typical priest and a spiritual leader for his organization.
For Daemon, The Circus is more than a group, or a source of income. It’s a home. An ideal. Everybody in the organization is his family, especially his co-founders, and he will defend them all to his dying breath. Strong, stoic, loyal, and kindhearted, Daemon is the heart of The Circus.
