Meet the Interns: Sharon Kunde
August is coming to a close, and that means it’s time for KPCC In Person to say good-bye to summer intern Sharon Kunde, who over the course of the last few months has impressed us with her smart event write-ups (see here and here), fun personality and cool car. Before she goes, we asked her to do a quick exit interview.
Full name: Sharon Kunde
School: Harvard (BA) and Teachers College, Columbia (MA) and University of California, Irvine (PhD, expected 2017)
Favorite KPCC show: Take Two
What makes your car so cool? It runs on waste vegetable oil and thus has a near-zero carbon footprint (small amount of emissions due to dual-tank system; engine has to warm up on diesel and then you switch it to oil once it's hot enough to burn the oil, which is more viscous than diesel).
Best Pasadena discoveries: Yoga House, free parking at Fillmore Station to take the Gold Line, By the Books coffee at Vromans, Thai iced tea at Chao Doi, Real Food Daily (could I better epitomize the Pasadena KPCC listener?).
What do you do outside KPCC? Write about American Transcendentalism and do backcountry hiking.
What did you most enjoy about the internship? In Person events!
Did you learn anything interesting during your time at KPCC? I learned a lot about Los Angeles culture and politics from In Person events, I learned that there is Tumblr. I learned the inimitable coolness of Quincetessence, and that meetings can be fun. I got front-row seats to watch the magical auditory choreography involved in broadcasting a live show.
What's next for you? Finishing my dissertation and becoming Dr. Kunde!
