Honestly, there are many Pokemon that I would like to have Mega Evolutions, and most of them are tiny single-stage babies. One in particular stands out to me as important, considering that it’s been presented as pretty much just food for Toxapex. I speak, of course, of Corsola. This poor little soul. It’s such a cute and interesting Pokemon! If only it had some way to be competitive, that still makes sense... Oh wait, there is.
Mega Corsola Water/Rock Ability: Survival Instinct - when an opponent boosts any stat or your stats are lowered, both defenses increase 2 stages HP: 65 Attack: 15 (-40) Defense: 135 (+40) Sp. Atk: 125 (+60) Sp. Def: 135 (+40) Speed: 35
The entire concept can be around protecting itself from predators, increasing primarily its defensive capabilities to dramatic heights. The ability serves as a strong check to many of the sweepers in the current meta, doubling defenses automatically when any sort of boost takes place. It also messes up Intimidate users, and Sticky Web becomes an even more significant benefit, causing it to immediately prepare defense when something bad happens. As for why two stages, I wanted something to be a hard answer to Swords Dance, which I feel gets off too easy in general, and to Quiver Dance, by offering a more significant special defense boost than they gain in offense. It also means Mega Corsola could switch in to boosting threats, nab its own boosts, and prepare to wall out everything.
125 special attack is nothing to scoff at, and Corsola gets some decent coverage options in Scald, Ice Beam, Earth Power, and Power Gem. Alternatively, you can embrace the recovery stall with Ingrain/Aqua Ring, Recover, Refresh, and one attack to avoid being complete Taunt-bait. With the typing, Grass types still annihilate it, and it’s not immune to status throwing it off (barring Refresh). But with these defensive stats, combined with a potent ability to promote walling ability, this is a great direction for the tiny passive friend.
