Mega Crystals and Pokemon Mutations

Since Z-A was first announced, I've written a lot about AZ's Floette. But now that we know more about the game...I think I can actually predict what Floette's deal is. I think the origin of the Eternal Flower is tied to a somewhat overlooked new mechanic in Z-A.
I think the Eternal Flower was once a normal flower that mutated because it grew around Mega Crystals, possibly even absorbing trace fragments of those crystals from the soil.
And then a regular Floette bonded with the mutated flower and became Eternal Flower Floette.

Mega Crystals are a new feature in Pokemon Legends: Z-A. They're little clusters of familiar pink crystals growing all around Lumiose. And Quasartico really wants them. If you bring them Mega Shards, they'll pay you in Mega Stones.
This suggests to me that Quasartico is making the Mega Stones out of the Mega Shards, so for the purpose of this theory, I'm going to sometimes use "Mega Crystal" and "Mega Stone" interchangeably.
Like every crystal, stone, and gem in Pokemon, these crystals have power. I'd bet the enigmatic Anistar Sundial is also made from refined Mega Crystals. After all, it powers up your Mega Ring in XY, so it's hard to argue the two aren't related.
And of course, if the Anistar Sundial is made of refined Mega Crystals, then AZ almost certainly used Mega Crystals to make the Ultimate Weapon too.
I thought it was a literally a giant, organic Eternal Flower before, but maybe the crystals in the Ultimate Weapon just took the form of the Eternal Flower because AZ was grieving his Floette.

Maybe AZ used Mega Crystals to create that "advanced technology" that brought prosperity to Kalos, according to the files in Lysandre's Library. After all, the Professor in Scarlet and Violet used Tera Crystals to create everything from an AI to a freakin' time machine. Crystals can do anything!
The Anistar Sundial is almost certainly one of the devices AZ created, since Professor Sycamore says it's 3,000 years old and says it "couldn't be manufactured with today's technology". (Source)
This begs the question: where did AZ get enough Mega Crystals to do all of this? Well, if you ask Rayquaza, sometimes sources of Mega Energy just fall from space. (Source) And there's also rumor in Kalos that the Anistar Sundial came from space.

Am I saying Mega Crystals come from space? Well clearly some of them do. If there were enough crystals to make a sundial, maybe AZ knew where a big meteorite full of Mega Crystals fell.
And maybe that meteorite had Eternal Flowers growing around it, absorbing that heavenly Mega Energy from the soil.
So there are mutagenic, possibly extraterrestrial Mega Crystals growing all over Lumiose City? No wonder there are Rogue Mega Pokemon all over the place!
Another hint we have that the Eternal Flower might have mutated is Diancie's lore. Diancie was a Carbink that "mysteriously mutated" into a Pokemon with familiar pink crystals. Who wants to bet that this mutation was a reaction to Mega Crystals?
I'm pretty confident that Floette's Eternal Flower was mutated by Mega Crystals, at least in some way. It's simple and it fits right in with a lot of Pokemon lore, especially with Eternal Flower Floette's fellow sixth generation mythical, Diancie.
Of course, even if my theory is right and Floette's Eternal Flower was mutated by Mega Crystals...it doesn't mean AZ's Floette herself can't still get a Mega Evolution in Z-A. 😉

I couldn't go into the popular "Xerneas and Yveltal came from a meteor" theory too much, but a meteor full of Mega Crystals does explain where AZ gets all of it. And then in ORAS, the meteorite is literally just a Mega Stone. So...yeah!
