I liked drawing mega empoleon so much
That I decided to draw mega torterra and mega infernape
Concept: Mega Empoleon with a pseudo-STAB for Ice, Dhelmise style. STAB Ice Beam without actually having to be burdened with the terrible Ice typing.
That is an excellent idea, and it greatly upsets me that “Give is an ability that makes Ice count as STAB” is a significantly better idea for anything than giving it an Ice typing.
Next up, Sinnoh Starters. I don’t need to see these happen exactly, but let me tell you, if we get Gen 4 remakes and don’t get mega versions of the starter Pokemon, the world will hear my screaming for three days and three nights before I die.
Mega Torterra Grass/Ground Ability: World Tree - auto-activates Ingrain, and negates critical hits HP: 95 Attack: 139 (+30) Defense: 135 (+30) Sp. Atk: 55 (-20) Sp. Def: 115 (+30) Speed: 66 (+10)
One of the things I noticed while doing this is that Torterra has a lot of fantastic move options. I’m actually surprised it didn’t need much in terms of new moves. The other thing I learned is that a Jolly Rock Polish is faster than Mega Alakazam. Which is why the +10 speed is there. Rock Polish with Adamant and that speed tier means it goes faster than any other mega form, and probably a good chunk of Scarf users. I think it would actually go faster than Scarf Lando-T, which...you know, good in my book. The ability prevents surprises, and allows for passive recovery to be automatic, while also preventing you from being forcefully switched out. So that Rock Polish set is really nice. Alternatively, enjoy the new tanking stats.
Mega Infernape Fire/Fighting Ability: Martial Prowess - increase super effective damage 20%. HP: 76 Attack: 154 (+50) Defense: 71 Sp. Atk: 154 (+50) Sp. Def: 71 Speed: 108
Little known facts: I really dislike Infernape. It was the first repeated dual-type, a Fighting type in general, and a monkey. I like nothing about it at all. I’m sure this bias shows. Part of my thought on this was to just utilize it as a great mixed wallbreaker. No need to really boost stats, you already punch through everything you’re faster than, and have great coverage to boot. I think it’s fine where it is.
Mega Empoleon Water/Steel Ability: Emperor's Regalia - reduce super-effective damage 25% and negates status effects. HP: 84 Attack: 116 (+30) Defense: 128 (+40) Sp. Atk: 111 Sp. Def: 131 (+30) Speed: 60
Alright, you got me; I have no great ideas where. It’s basically just here to tank with pretty alright defensive stats, and has both offenses at okay levels. I basically threw a ton into the ability since I couldn’t come up with a good idea anywhere else. I think it’s a case of the stats feeling sub-par, but the ability really making it shine. It has no recovery, but boosted offenses don’t matter and super-effective damage is limited in its effectiveness. Offenses are just so-so, but buffs to defense are completely ignored, and we’ll give a flat bonus to non-STAB moves just to make it a bit more impressive offensively. I really didn’t have a great idea, beyond “I want either offensive stat to be good while also enhancing defensive options.” Turns out, 100 points isn’t enough to allocate to make it great at everything. Who knew.
