Mega Mela postponed (2012.07.11)
The Mega Mela festival was due to be held in Platt Fields Park on 13-14th July 2012, but has been rescheduled for 25-26th August 2012 due to damage sustained to the park by heavy rain and the earlier Parklife festival.
I absent-mindedly framed this image as portrait rather than landscape. However, this presents the opportunity to look at ways in which different formats are combined. That I intend my book to be landscape removes (for this purpose) consideration of printing images across two pages. Illustrations in text-based books were routinely published in the orientation that best displayed the image rather than for ease of viewing in a set book orientation. Early photobooks followed the form of albums, with prints mounted and these mounts bound. This necessitated that any prints of a different format be included on their sides. This approach is still used today in modern bindings to make best use of page space; examples include Claes Oldenburg's Photo log, May 1974 - August 1976 and more recently still Stephen Gill's Coming up for air. The usability of this option would be affected by book size, with smaller books being much more manageably turned.
