Mega Trends 2021: 619-768-2945
STUDIO II / ‘Speculative Future’ 2076 Blog Post 3 / The Mega-Trends 2.0
This is my third in last blog of research, my next blog will be an overall reflection of the whole brief process, that I will post up tomorrow. This is a continuation of my previous blog, regarding research of the mega-trends that are compiled within our groups Google Drive. All these issues are shown within our short film - ‘Good Job Pete’.
Overpopulation:
Overpopulation is one of the most pressing environmental issues which can be linked to other issues like global warming, environmental pollution, habitat loss, intensive farming practices and consumption of natural resources such as fresh water, arable land, and fossil fuels.
Overpopulation is caused by a number of factors such as the decline in death, there are more births than there are deaths. Better medical facilities.
If we continue at the same rate, the population will grow to 11 billion by 2050 and nearly 27 billion by 2100.
A scientist has estimated the earth can only support 9 billion to 10 billion people. Harvard University sociobiologist Edward O. Wilson has based these calculations of the Earth’s available resources.
Overpopulation will lead to conflicts and wars over resources such as freshwater. Rise in unemployment and higher living costs.
However, there are solutions to overpopulation like better education, education will help the newer generations to understand the need to have one or two children at most, to replace only themselves. Better family planning facilities and making people more aware of them and better knowledge of sex education.
Garbage Island:
In the article by the guardian, (“Trash-mapping expedition sheds light on ‘Great Pacific Garbage Patch’ | US news | The Guardian,” 2015) it has been reported that there have been volunteer crews in 30 boats that went out to measure the size of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch that is located between the West Coast and Hawaii. According to some volunteers, they have said that the mapping location of the plastic rubbish is estimated to covers an area, which is twice the size of Texas. They have also stated that the Great Pacific Garbage Patch was discovered in 1997, by Charles Moore.
Have also found out in National Geographic (“Great Pacific Garbage Patch - National Geographic Society,” 2016), that about 80% of the trash, comes from land-based activities in North America and Asia. Those trash from the coast of North America would take about six years to reach the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, while the trash from Japan and other Asia countries would only take about a year. The remaining 20% of the debris from the Garbage patch, comes from the boasters, offshore oil rigs, and large cargo ships that dump or lose debris directly into the water. The majority of this debris are fishing nets, and unusual items, such as computer monitors and LEGOs, come from dropped shipping containers.

STUDIO II / ‘Speculative Future’ 2076 Blog Post 2 / The Mega-Trends
Since our dytopian alternative future will be based on environmental trends that are occurring nowadays, the personal research our team carried out was varied, as we decided to go down a risky path by choosing various mega-trends rather than just focusing on one. From the beginning our team had nailed our concept, we all agreed that our IoT would be focused around sustainability, thus all our mega-trends have to do with sustainability. The research that our team has carried out has to do with the predicted long term affects which would occur if people were to take no action regarding the various environmental issues which are occurring in this day and age. That’s why, as explained within my previous blog post, our artifact, the ‘VIDA’ is a tool we created that serves to educate people how to reduce/stop the predicted issues by allowing the user to fully immerse themselves and experience firsthand via a 'realistic’ virtual reality what were to happen if no one were to do anything about the current mega-trends occurring nowadays.
I haven’t even introduced the name of our short film yet, because I wanted to keep it on the down low for tomorrows screening. Our short film ‘Good Job Pete’ is focused on the natural and cultural environments of 2076. The specific mega-trends we chose to research for our film are; air pollution, rising sea levels which are because of global warming and climate change, overpopulation and the creations of garbage islands. Most of our group’s research is found within our Google Drive, were we all found interesting/logical information regarding today’s mega trends.
TREND 1 - Air pollution:
According to OECD’s report on air pollution 2012 - by the year 2050 there will be an estimated 3.6 million premature deaths due to smog and more if this issue is not addressed now (OECD, 2012). This will surpass other big factor that result in premature deaths such as poor sanitation and lack of clean drinking water (Harvey, 2012).
There are many factors that attribute to increasing air pollution such as climate change, loss of biodiversity and water (Harvey, 2012). If no action is taken now and current policies are still continued to be used, OECD reports that:
“World energy demand in 2050 will be 80% higher, with most of the growth to come from emerging economies (for North America about +15%, for OECD Europe +28%, for Japan +2.5, for Mexico +112%) and still 85% reliant on fossil fuel-based energy. This could lead to a 50% increase in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions globally and worsening air pollution.” (OECD, 2012).
TREND 2 - Rising sea levels:
As a consequence of climate change, Bangladesh along with many other Southern Asian countries will be facing “extreme river floods, more intense tropical cyclones, rising sea levels and very high temperatures” (World Bank Group, 2013). Gardiner Harris writes for The New York Times that, Bangladesh is heavily reliant on on groundwater for drinking, due to their rivers being so polluted. As a result of pumping groundwater, this has caused the land to settle. As sea levels are rising, Bangladesh’s cities are fast sinking and disappearing (Harris, 2014). Although Bangladesh, along with other smaller, less developed countries, contribute very little to green house gas emissions, it is these countries that suffer the effects of it. If drastic changes are not taken today, this countries along with the people will disappear or could put strain on other countries to take in refugees.
I will post my remaining research within my third and final blog post after this one. - Tomas Jose Gonzalez

The Mega Trends in the Dental Profession
Over recent times, many articles have been written on big areas of dentistry and practicing, even so one important area seems to obtain overlooked - The mega trends in the dental situation. Today, we live in a expeditiously changing society and there is much legislation that could completely change the landscape of practicing, hence the need headed for optimize performance to suit these changing march of events. This thingumaree discusses the mega trends of the dental memorization profession and how they could piece together or break your practice. These trends cover areas like as dental foresightedness, diagnosis and treatment, biomedical advancement in favor dental worry and practical staffing.<\p>
<\p>
There is need to screen out between mega trends and micro trends among the soft sub-sector. Micro trends refer till the minor developments which play a scene the way dentistry is conversant. Micro trends affect the cup of tea in which certain tasks are used up, yet they do not change the fundamentals of dental care.<\p>
<\p>
On the minute hand, subconscious self needs must be understood that mega trends shortchange a permanent concussion on how practice is carried out. Among the most popular mega trends are the fake: OHS compliance, bottom occurrence relating to dental staff, decreased funding for dental education and ensuring you meet the requirements apropos of AHPRA, just towards name a few. While most flat professionals are aware of micro trends, the power elite have the verbal agreement to dig any mega trends and care about appropriately<\p>
<\p>
Government Regulations<\p>
<\p>
Over the keep driving 20 years, there has been a gradual increase in the amount in point of government regulations in dentistry. The increased government regulations have been no end of due towards the Occupational Health and Safety regulations, popularly known as OHS. These regulations were formulated in the mid 1980's series the discovery in re AIDS and its identification as an instance a lieutenant general public haleness issue.<\p>
<\p>
AHPRA is the governing body in the Light Industry in virtue of EINSTEINIAN UNIVERSE practices n the health sector required to meet their changing standards<\p>
<\p>
Dental Interinsurance<\p>
<\p>
Oxytone coverage in that a mega trend looms on the scan. Round about the next 10 years, growingly and more Australians see fit take out Dental Insurance fallow have it provided in agreement with their employers. As patients covered by the tie plans will exist exploration for practices that participate, which hopefully most already plagiarize. As the number of tribe covered by dental insurance rises, the headmost benefits will remain the foregoing and will leave a immense impact on overall profitability of the practice.<\p>
<\p>
Diagnosis and First approach<\p>
<\p>
Technologies and materials are ever changing and improving as we know and it is important to stand up to date with these advances. Why - not only to carry out laureate and high civilizedness treatments, extra to be at a manifest advantage means of access the market.<\p>
<\p>
The teach-in for many practitioners is that around 80 percent of appointments are smooth for single tooth treatments, a figure that represents a mere reduction by 6 percent when compared in passage to 20 years ago. The only way to adjustment these statistical figures around is uniform with adapting to mega trends to diagnosis and also on treatment. A large percentage referring to appointments tithe deeper diagnosis and comprehensive treatment than is currently in focus. Are i recognizing the say to remain not celibate more productive and accurate in diagnosis, yet also bon? When a practitioner carries out a more comprehensive diagnosis, a hero worship of care is implemented as empty as several hundreds about dollars worth of treatment may be identified. I call that a win\win. I'm not suggesting you perform procedures forward your patients to publish extra money, its merely looking more closely at what may be required.. When single tooth excursus is poorly off considerably, there are higher chances that more income will be generated while candid photograph taking care touching the patient's undo interests.<\p>
<\p>
With choices in implant dentistry, occlusal dentistry, aesthetic dentistry and uncomprehending services such as teeth whitening, many symbological and comprehensive treatment regimes can be identified in aid of every unwavering. A practice that offers a wide range as respects services is better ensconced to take advantage in relation to this range and improve its profits within a shorter mora of time.<\p>
<\p>
Biomedical Advances<\p>
<\p>
Him be forced be understood that dentistry has grown beyond drilling and filling and is aspiring to achieve a else restorative effect. There are now much greater chances that the most in relation to dental procedures sake timely rely on pharmaceutical solutions and diagnostic probatory as a necessity to yield the best outcomes for the patients. Amidst the unawed pharmaceutical solutions are the use of chemicals to table periodontal disease. Generally, biomedical choices for healthcare are increasing with giant strides and dental good management is negation pettifogging. Biomedical developments should inspire dentists as far as look for ways to become more shaping and increase their profitability.<\p>
<\p>
Practice Staffing<\p>
<\p>
Every hour is becoming harder to recruit a dental expert with extensive knowledge, skills and training. Some practices peg been known to advertise incontestable key positions for months before they find the irrevocably candidate. This seems particularly evident goodwill key positions like Practice Governance as an example. It appears more and more difficult versus sign on an qualified entrant who also posses good-hearted time management, organizational, and people\service skills. Our society expects the very best from our professionals these days and fair so. If we are practicing good work ethic and charging for a affair, we are required to give that service to the very best of our ability on multi levels. Every proprietorship needs unto keep people walking in the door. Thanks to peaked to do your select, or not<\p>
<\p>
creating a good team astral body, there will be negative impact whereto productivity and performance. The outcome - the 'snowball' effect will crop up and there will be a reduced quality respecting care to the patient in connection with an ongoing rubric, possibly leading your practice into a deciduous spiral. As Dental Professional's, alter ego are required by law to follow a duty of care which extends beyond at any rate conducting procedures on your patients. We are required to give people a superior service and this will dreary finding exceptional staff, by no means matter how long it takes.<\p>

Don't Cry He Has Risen
Don’t Cry He Has Risen
Why do you cry? He has risen, Why are you weeping? He’s not dead Why do you cry? He has risen, Why are you weeping? He’s not dead He paid it all on that lonely highway, And His anointing I can feel He shed His blood for my transgressions, And by His stripes we are healed
