I am listening to Stephen Fry’s Sherlock Holmes - which I’ve never read - and I’m surprised.
1. His voice is naturally lovely, and he is quite good at voice acting, especially across genders and dialects.
2. In between stories, Fry adds in his own annotated bits, and I am completely charmed with what I’m learning. The first one was about Oscar Wilde 😍
3. I now understand why Old School Sherlock Holmes fans do not like BBC’s Sherlock.
4. It’s 54 hours long, and I’m actually looking forward to the whole of it. This is an important thing! Unlike everything else I read, there’s nothing (textually) queer about it, and there’s no yay sexy times. There definitely IS painful-to-hear racist and sexist references, a linguistic slurry of slurs, and other triggery shit, but I’m still on board. It’s old and (Eurocentricly speaking) a classic, and I’m enjoying it very much.
5. Thank you Past Me who babbled to herself, “Look dummy, you need more variety in your reading choices. Re-reading R. Cooper or Megan Derr is fine, but your ass is on the couch for days, and you’ve already read both series once? twice? this year. Listen to audio books and clean your damn house!”
