Growing up we didn’t have much money but we always had what we needed. My mother was not one for flying or cruises for vacations. If you are from the New England area then you are aware of this little place in Rhode Island called Misquamicut Beach. My mom would pack a cooler and we would spend the day there. My younger sister is about 4 years younger than I. She is what some would call fearless. So when she found out that they had water slides she was all for it. Let me go on record stating I can’t swim and my sister thought she could swim because she could swim in the bathtub and didn’t drown.. you see what I had to deal with growing up?! Anyway we begged my mother to have money so we could go on the water slides. I am what some people might have called a baby. I didn’t like risks. So when my mother had enough money for us to go, I was scared. I had to be maybe 10 years old which left Lisa about 6 years old. There were 4 slides. There was the “baby” slide, the next slide looked a little scarier as it was taller and had some tunnels, the slide next to that was scarier as it was taller and had more tunnels and then there was the mega slide. The mega slide was super tall with tons of tunnels and had water streaming from all sides and angles. Of course we wait in line for the baby slide, I mean what big sister would I be if I let my baby sister go on the bigger slides?! The baby slide mostly consisted of children with their mothers/fathers present and in swimming diapers. I’m not kidding when I say Lisa might have been the oldest in line at 6 years old. After one round on the baby slide, Lisa wanted to hit up the mega slide. After some unconvincing argument I gave we head in line for the mega slide. Being the big sister I wanted to make sure Lisa got on the slide ok. I turn to place my mat next to me to help my sister get on her mat and when I turn to help her, the little bitch is gone. I look down the slide and see this chubby red head with her arms in the air speeding down the water slide. I think it can’t be that bad so I go next. I place my mat down and go to sit on it and then all hell breaks loose. My mat goes down before I do; all I remember is speeding down this water slide. My mat was in front of me, smacking me in the face; I keep turning backwards or sideways and even upside down, flipping over and over. I finally land in the pool at the bottom of the water slide upside down and backwards. I’m surprised I didn’t shit myself. Now as I mentioned I couldn’t swim so here I am crying and drowning. I am fighting for my life and I hear in the distance something to the relation of “someone tell that asshole to stand up”, well thank you mother. My feet finally hit the bottom and I am able to stand. The water was maybe up to my knees. I was crying and choking and was done for the day. I went to the fence where my mother sat on the other side. I told her I was done and didn’t want to go down the slides anymore. She smiled and said “I have no money and you both begged me to go on the water slide so you are going again.” My sister dragged me up the steps and was eager to go again. As my baby sister stood in line for the mega slide, I waited in line for the baby slide.
