dark eyes looked over at the boy in front of her. and immediately her gaze falls to his shoes. her can’t help but frown at the sight. not because she hadn’t seen them before, or that he didn’t wear them often enough. she just didn’t like them, she really wished he’d wear something else. “don’t you have, i dunno ---- like NORMAL shoes??” then again, for gansey standards that was probably as normal as they got. but for others like her and adam, they were far from it. but if richard gansey wore sneakers that might be even weirder, but still.

paraded  victoriously  into  London’s  high  society  by  the  Queen  herself   ,            there  was  truly  no  moment  for  oneself  once  the  ladies   &&   their  mothers  sunk  their  claws  in  him .   endless  smiling  faces ,   eyes  glimmering  with  eager  hope  for  just  a  glance  from  the  prince .   it  seemed  titles  were  everything  here   &&   his  own  brought  about  the  attention  of  just  about  everyone  in  London .   Nikolai  wasn’t  quite  sure  if  it  was  a  curse  or  a  blessing ,   just  yet .   he  was  here  to  study   . . .   &&   get  away  from  a  few  things  back  home ,   not  find  a  wife .

with  one  last  charming  smile ,   the  prince  escapes  to  the  garden .   a  breath  of  fresh  air  before  going  back  into  the  fray .   a  moment  to  gather  his  wits .   he  should  be  enjoying  this   &&   yet  such  false  sentiments  do  nothing  but  sour  his  mood .   he  lets  out  a  few  curses  in  his  mother - tongue ,   hoping  no  one  heard  him .   &&   even  if  they  did ,   no  one  would  understand  him  anyway .

georgiana already regretted her decision to come along with her brother and leaving pemberley in favour of london. the season would never truly suit her, too shy for such socializing, but though her brother would allow her to remain home, it would be bad if she skipped too many events. rumours were a nasty thing. “ your mother seemed ... nice. she was very kind. ” who wouldn’t be? georgiana had no title but she certainly had money. and money could excuse a lot. “ and very eager for us to get acquainted. ”

the festive season was always lewis’ least favourite time a year. in his student days, he could get by with turning down invitations to parties — not, granted, that he received many to begin with — but with his connection to high-born friends like dr. barthélemy and comte luminuex and his desire to advance professionally, he could no longer spend december avoiding society. tonight had been a thoroughly tedious blur of barons, lords, ladies, and duchesses, none of whose names lewis had bothered to commit well to memory. that, incidentally, proved to be a bit of a problem when an old acquaintance came over to introduce a man lewis had certainly already met at last week’s ball. “ lord... mortimer, was it? ”
