Went completely overboard with writing an article about these guys for Worldbuilding Summer Camp so I decided to make up for it by... doing a full painting for them as well. Um. Hmm. angelino alessi.

BIO: 19 / m / twister.

BACKGROUND: which is more infamous about angelino — his past or his present? his mother, who gets discussed in hushed whispers and crammed into the tail-end of prayers, or himself, who leaves it open-ended as to if he’s going down the same path? caterina alessi is said to have bitten off more than she could chew, and that’s why she ended up like… that. but angelino refuses to become like her. angelino always knew he was more.

mika amane.

BIO: 16 / f / powerless.

BACKGROUND: though both of them were sent away to find a ‘better life’, mika’s brother’s version of a better life only seemed to have room for one. after a run-in that could have killed her, mika was instead found by (and promptly anchored herself to) wes. today, she throws herself in fights to support the two of them, and swears to be for wes what jin gave up on being for her.

BIO: 17 / f / shapeshifter.

BACKGROUND: like most children, wes grew up thinking she was different. unlike them, she knew it to be for the worst. raised by a grandfather struggling to remember her, wes’s life took its real turn downhill when she was fourteen: her shifting got her stuck in place (half conscious and in pain) for almost two years, and left her with even less of a grasp on it than she had in the first place. the heist for wes will do one of two things— either give her a chance at usefulness, or finally give mika a reason to leave her.

BIO: 19 / m / skinshifter.

BACKGROUND: born to a town afraid of magic, and taught to hide his own, the city was supposed to be mekki’s ticket out. instead, it landed him in the lap of a rich man, forced to now change forms as entertainment for him and his friends. mekki managed to escape a year later, but not without his pride hurt and identity shattered. to rediscover and reaffirm it, he’s vowed to never shift again — let everyone see him only as him, damn them.

BIO: 20 / nb / core.

BACKGROUND: if you asked, cammy would tell you their life ended when their mage died. not wanting to be given to another, cammy fled two days later, and ended up being found by angelino. he’s not a replacement, not really - that’s what cammy insists, even as their thoughts slowly fog over, as magic sparks in their veins and purpose sits dull in their throat. he can’t be. cammy doesn’t love him enough for it.

BIO: 23 / f / powerless.

BACKGROUND: rich and successful, ramona has made a name for herself through magical experimentation. though she has none of her own, her projects aid those who do: she can help a skinshifter trapped between forms, people twisted into forgetting their past. whatever the case, no matter how hard, ramona is known to help people. pity that’s not what she signed up for.

BIO: 18 / m / skinshifter.

BACKGROUND: ramona’s younger brother, though with none of the influence she carries, dima has largely grown up with a book in hand. he loves his sister, and has learned to see the world not unlike how she does, but now that he can finally live out something not in the pages of a novel he’s determined not to squander it: he’s going to make this the best heist ever.

That’s why the hives of Targian look so similar, for example, to the hives of Aralan or Regallus.’ ‘Because they’re constructed using the same plans.’ ‘And built with exactly the same tools.’ ‘So, your parents thought they could do better?’ ‘They thought they should be allowed to try. ‘He told us?’ ‘You speak his language?’ ‘No, but Mekki…’ Her voice trailed off. Admitting that Mekki had attempted to forge a link to Fleapit’s cybernetic implants probably wasn’t a good idea, especially when talking to an inquisitor. Jeremias leant forward in his chair, the grox-leather creaking. ‘Mekki did what?’ ‘I… communicated with him,’ Mekki admitted. Jeremias’s jaw clenched at the revelation, a vein throbbing at his temple. ‘You are a psyker?’ The Martian shook his head. ‘No. It was a data-exchange, nothing more. Flegan-Pala had dropped into a hibernation cycle.’ ‘Mekki tried to wake him up,’ Talen said, jumping to his friend’s defence. Mekki nodded. ‘And in the process, I learned a little about his past. Images, that is all.’ ‘And you believed them? You believed a xenos?’ The inquisitor looked at him sadly. ‘Mekki, aliens cannot be trusted, especially a life form as devious as a Jokaero.'

Hi am I wildly attached to good intentions because i saw an excerpt and some cool magic lore? yes, most certainly. can you tell us any more cool info about the plot or the characters?

hey! im so happy you like it 🥺 good intentions is steadily securing itself a softer and softer spot in my heart and getting closer and closer to being introduced here fr. the only reason it hasn’t already is bc for once, i actually want to have some writing on it complete before i start posting about it and imposing an expectation like that on myself :’))

but anyway anyway anyway. if/when i do officially intro it, ill lay out character intros and all. but until then here’s some vibes!

THE PLOT.

uhhh it’s still in the works but. i know there’s a twister named angelino who wants to steal some important stuff, with his crew banded to him for various reasons — cammy has nothing left, mekki owes him, wes and mika need the money. that’s as much plot as you’re getting because im figuring it out as im writing too. the CHARACTERS though.....

THE CHARACTERS.

mika cái. f / 16 / powerless.

got abandoned by her older brother jin and had to fend for herself — something that went mostly okay until wes (see below) first found her bleeding out in an alley. wes panicked and clumsily patched her up. mika said I Owe You My Life Now

jin failed to protect her? fine. mika will make herself someone who never needs to be protected, and will then protect someone else like he should have done from the start.

also. wes = first kindness mika was shown in a while. and mika doesn’t know how to love in measures

currently the ‘breadwinner’ between her and wes through a variety of mostly illegal fighting related means

every twister in town seems to know of him — he and his family have a reputation for biting off more than they can chew

i might have him use a cane but 😀 at the six of crows fans that’ll inevitably draw in

this whole heist was his idea, and it seems like he’s chosen the most bizarre crew to complete it

has an ... interesting relationship with cammy.

mekki. m / 18 / skinshifter.

has been through too much and knows it

magic was throughly hated in his village, and he ended up being taken under a rich man’s wing for ‘safety’ (re: his parents getting rid of him). what that really ended up meaning though was that his magic was treated as little more than a party trick, with mekki being forced to shift into whatever the man’s guests asked on whim

mekki clung to his anger and his birth-form (away from public prying eyes) and after a year or two managed to escape, identity a little shaken. now he refuses to ever shift out of it

his magic has never felt like his. he hates it, hates having it, and hates the idea that when people look at him they see it instead of him. by never shifting out of his birth form he figures they HAVE to look at him as himself

very angry, very bitter, kind of selfish

flees whenever he’s in a situation he doesn’t like as a trauma response to having been So Long in a situation he hated and being unable to do anything about it. he’s never going to let anything get that bad again if he can help it

owes angelino a favor

the mage they were attuned to died, leaving them thoroughly lost. they wandered the streets dazed and grieving until angelino found them
