Dethentines 2023
This is the last time I'll probably be able to do a fandom event like this, so I'm glad I was able to get them done
Dethentines Day 6: Hurt/comfort or domestic au
I love my bodyguard romance
Kloktober Day 10: Costume Ball
Amber and her husband + her bodyguard/boyfriend/husband's boyfriend/backup plan
amber meets her bodyguard
Dethentine's Day 1: In the style of a romance novel
Okay, not exactly following the prompt. But I love bodyguard romances and Amber/Melmord in a bodyguard romance, so I couldn't resist
thinking about melmord being amber's bodyguard, still wearing the klokateer getup, and one day he gets injured trying to protect her and when she's tending his wounds she removes his hood and is like
"oh"
3, 29, 35 for MagCharles, 19 and 43 for MelmAmber!
- Are they open about their relationship? How do they feel about public displays of affection?
Magnus would be slightly more willing to be open about it, but he’s not going to be the first one to bring it up. If Charles doesn’t, he’s not going to be the one to go there. He is more comfortable with public displays of affection, however. Charles is like “there’s a time and a place”.
- How do the handle disasters or emergencies? Minor injuries? Sickness?
Charles will calmly (or at least try to) handle the situation to the best of his ability, with a touch of frustration and annoyance if it’s warranted. Meanwhile, Magnus will make a Thing™ out of whatever’s happening. If Charles gets sick, Magnus will read his webmd results to him.
- Do they bring out the best in each other, or the worst? Do they have a fatal flaw?
In w3, at least, they kinda balance each other out well. Charles encourages Magnus to get his life together, and Magnus encourages Charles to assert himself more. There are some instances where Charles brings out some of Magnus’ more less than favorable qualities, but that’s for later.
- What do they fight about? What are their arguments like? How do they make up?
They mostly just “play-argue” (banter, I believe is the term), but it’s rare for them to actually fight. Usually because Amber will just close up and Melmord finds that hard to work with. Amber will just post a closeup selfie to her instagram story with a cryptic caption like “there’s just so much to deal with right now”. Melmord knows to leave her alone until she privately dms him another selfie.
- Do they talk often? What about?
When she gets to talking, Amber will inevitably start rambling about her interests: mostly fashion, dance, cosmetology. But she’s fine just quietly listening to whatever Melmord wants to talk about. There’s a lot of overlap between their interests so they can carry a conversation just fine.
8, 42, 35, 45 for Melamber or Blues Devil/Amber? :O
Blues Devil/Amber is still a relatively new dynamic in my head, so I’ll answer for Melamber
What do the like best about their partner?
Melmord really likes Amber’s quiet confidence, how she seems to command attention and respect without doing much that’s genuine in a way that’s probably refreshing. She’s also one of the few people he sees on a daily basis who isn’t directly associated with the band. I imagine they’re both an oasis from the band in each other’s eyes.
Amber likes how she can relax around Melmord. First it was because he’s her bodyguard so she could relax in that way, but as they grew closer Amber got more comfortable letting her guard down around him as well. It took four months until she felt comfortable speaking to him. He makes her laugh. She likes that too, even if it makes her sad sometimes.
- Do they let each other get away with things that would normally bother them?
Melmord is contractually obligated to let Amber do what she wants, for the most part. Besides that, he’s okay with her not always paying attention to him, because he knows she’s not intentionally ignoring him -- she’s just quiet. Also, married. I can’t think of anything Melmord could do to annoy Amber that she doesn’t already have to deal with from Seth on a more extreme level.
- Do they bring out the best in each other, or the worst? Do they have a fatal flaw?
Melmord does help to bring out more of Amber’s natural personality, but it takes a while for her to warm up to that. Amber tends to bring out Melmord’s more professional side, because taking care of her is his job. Their fatal flaw is the institution of marriage.
- Any special dreams or goals they have as a couple? Any heartbreaks? Regrets?
Amber doesn’t want to have regrets, because she still loves her husband and her son. She feels more free around Melmord and a selfish part of her dreams about being able to be with him, but part of her worries that doing so will only cause the cycle to repeat itself. Seth was her first serious relationship. What if this is just how it’s going to be for her, no matter who she’s with? Because she loves Seth, and maybe that scares her so she’s attaching herself to another man who pays attention to her, as a possible escape route in case it doesn’t work out. Maybe the underlying issue is her, not the men in her life. Maybe Melmord is just her bodyguard, and she should leave it like that.
Melmord wants to teach her how to skateboard.
