I often wish Lindsay and Melanie weren't apart of the show. When they're in scenes for the guys storylines, it's fine, but watching their storyline; I could have done without it.

This is their divorce era and Mel still wakes up every day to a visual reminder that she was just a background character in the Brian, Gus, Lindz and Mel parenthood saga. Even Brian has a solo photo of holding newborn Gus, but Mel only has this cuckold threesome memento lol

I'll try to keep it short as i can, i dont want this to be a rant because those two really frustrates me 😆
I’m honestly 50/50 on Mel and Lindsay as a couple. Sometimes, I genuinely wonder how they even got together in the first place. Mel clearly resents Lindsay’s privilege and lack of financial awareness, (she is still the spoiled daughter of an upper class WASP couple) while Lindsay feels smothered by Mel’s intensity and egocentrism (it seems like Lindsay went for a female version of Brian, sans the tricking). They constantly feel like they’re battling for space instead of building a life together.
What really gets me is the hypocrisy. They demand loyalty and honesty but both cheated. They set rules they can’t even follow. It’s hard to root for a couple that keeps tearing each other down. And somehow, they still judge Brian and Justin’s dynamic? The audacity and self righteousness.
That said, I do appreciate what they represent. Their relationship is messy, complicated, and sometimes infuriating, but it’s also a rare example of queer domestic realism on TV at the time. They’re not romanticized, and that honesty makes them feel deeply human, even when they're at their worst.
That being said… I hate how they handled things with both their kids. With Brian, they demanded so much: his time, his money, his parental rights, one toe out of line and they tear him a new one, and yet they didn’t hold Michael to the same standard at all. Why the double standard? And the custody battle over JR? A selfish, petty mess. I loathed Mel and Michael so much during that arc. It was unfair to literally everyone, especially the kids.

I'm rewatching QAF and Melanie in early s3 saying that, unlike Brian, if Michael were to be the father of their second child he wouldn't give them any trouble.. is honestly hilarious in hindsight when you know how insane he acted when Mel and Linds separated
the way the show handled melanie’s endometriosis was the biggest indicator there were no women in that writer’s room lol
