Hi! I have a bonded rabbit pair I adopted. The boy is neutered but the girl is not because I’m not exactly sure of their age and didn’t dare risk her not waking up from anaesthetics. She’s a bit of a troublemaker tho: she gets nesting behaviour almost every month and aggressively humps my boy, and then I mean a lot and stubbornly so that I have to separate them. The boy is really timid tho, so these moods of hers are really affecting him. Do you have any advice on how to solve this?
Since it sounds very much hormonal related, so I’m inclined to suggest talking to your vet about the issue. I know you have concerns about spaying her, but the vet might have some other suggestions.
As far as behavioral intervention, I would try to redirect the behavior - maybe offer a rabbit-sized stuffed animal and place her near/on that when she starts to hump your boy? See if she’ll accept it as an outlet for that behavior. More puzzle toys & exercise might keep her busy & distract her from attempting to hump him as well.
Not sure if anyone else has experience with this & has any suggestions? Curious if any rabbit owners have more insight or advice, since I”m not a rabbit owner!
