After too many years, I’ve finally read Mel Cheren’s memoirs Keep On Dancin’ from cover to cover. It’s a very personal account of a music industry insider who happened to be gay from the late 50’s through the late 90’s. Lover of Mike Brody who with his help created the Paradise Garage. Founder of West End records and experienced firsthand the evolution of music from rhythm and blues, rock, soul, disco and then house. His detailed account of his life is vivid and palpable. I really enjoyed getting to know this man whom I barely knew but was always so friendly and kind back to me in the pre and post Garage days. A true mentor for sure to so many. Not perfect by any means, but I feel his heart was in the right place. I highly recommend this book. #melcheren #keepondancin #westendrecords @taanagardner @larrylevanway @paradisegarage #letsgodancin #heartbeat #hotshot #drlove #letnomanputasunder #nycpeechboys #24hoursforlife @keithharingfoundation (at New York, New York) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bv2v5XEnlImjU8Dg-Q6krazJSXIRI6L7Ae4oHg0/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=sots6ftkmas1
