The Impressionist Object at the Dawn of American Realism
Under the influence of European Impressionists, 20th century painters used this aesthetic to capture the charm and beauty of the countryside and the city, as well as the quiet delicacy of domestic interiors. During the 1910s and 1920s, the realist celebration of America spread throughout the country, as artists recorded the neighborhoods and people that made their own cities distinct. In these paintings, unlike more traditional Impressionist works, the setting is indoors with only a reference to the outside created from the inclusion of open windows and doors. Inclusion of objects and furnishings helped express the lives of the sitter.
Around 1910, American Impressionist Childe Hassam began depicting single female figures set in comfortable domestic interiors. Usually little of the room is shown, except for a highly polished table, which reflects the sunlight, and upon which is set a delicate vase of fresh flowers, a tea set, platter of fruit, or an objet d’art. Such is true for Hassam’s Strawberry Tea Set. Like Hassam, Gari Melchers began painting interior genre scenes, which may reflect his new-found domestic bliss and increased financial security. Unlike his earlier work, these scenes are filled with light and brilliant color and convey a certain bourgeois materialism. Writing parallels the "window series," like Strawberry Tea Set, by Hassam. Melchers painted his interiors with a full brush and pure color, demonstrating his new alliance with Impressionism.
Frederick Carl Frieseke’s painting, In the Boudoir, is typical of the many informal interior scenes he painted throughout his career. Although he much preferred to paint outdoors, the American public of the 1910s more readily bought his boudoir scenes of women involved in their toilette or in some other feminine activity. In this painting, the model lounges in a room decorated with elegant French rococo furniture and an oriental carpet. In contrast to the figure’s restful pose, the scene is alive with decorative patterning. A tamer interior scene by Frieseke, Youth, is a portrait of Preston Carter Harrison with his stuffed rabbit. Young Carter sits politely on the edge of an elegant French chair, obviously posing for the artist. The variety of decorative patterns and the patterned objects—upholstered chair, oriental rug, and garden flowers in the distance—form a contrast with the figure of the quiet boy.
Objects like the tea set, the lavish furniture, the writing desk, and the bunny, not only allow the viewer to better understand the status of the sitter, but also mark the moving away from Impressionism into American Realism.

Engineering Samples: 'This is Gold - Modern Pop Production'
The idea behind the concept of 'This is Gold - Modern Pop Production' was to create a high quality, creative and easy to use tool for musicians, producers and bands, whether for music production, scoring of commercial and TV scenes, jingles or much more.
To accomplish the goal of delivering authentic and high quality loops and samples I only used the finest equipment like Music Man and Fender Guitars, Blackstar Amplifiers recorded and mixed over an Audient ASP8024 console to give you the warmth you need.
The Guitars were recorded over a Blackstar HT Series Tube Amp with 3 Mics. I used an AKG Tube Condenser which gives huge bottom, a Rode NT5 for adding some air and of course a Shure SM57 for giving that classic sound. All mixed together creates these sparkling guitars.
To satisfy contemporary requirements it was important for me to afford our customers maximum flexibility. Every Construction Kit includes up to 37 single loops, is key-labelled and with BPM information. Most of the sounds are available as dry and wet versions to make them fit your tracks easily. All drum lines come in a dry and a room version, so you can mix your own favourite drum sound for your custom production.
Furthermore the package includes melodic pianos, cinematic strings, groovy basslines, crisp percussion and special instruments like harp or kalimba. Of course everything was mixed over the Audient ASP 8024. I‘ve sent all the sounds through the console, glued them together with the internal Bus Compressor to record final mix stems.
We don‘t want to sound like everybody else. We want to create something special and unique. We only want to deliver sounds and samples we are chuffed about it and which we would use in our own production. To achieve that goal Engineering Samples is happy to be able to use products like the Audient ASP8024.
