It’s also fair to think about how Travis considered Ragnar in this - because he’s like “yeah no he’s just dead. He’s an atheist as he dies, he’s not going to Valhalla.”. And if anything, we won’t actually ever know, which is both the good and bad of religion, right. Feel free to take the “the author is dead” approach to it, because I know I am in this case.

Travis has always been 100% of the reason why Ragnar had as much emotional depth as he did though, so his interpretation will always be the best. I don’t think any other actor could have taken on that role and interpreted it quite the way he did, with so much tenderness. ANYWAY, I would have preferred the show to go this route as well--especially after Ragnar’s declaration of “does it matter?” wrt where Athelstan ended up--but Hirst saw the shortcut and he took it. This particular author is absolutely dead to me tho. :P

The plan was easy: Find the freak, bribe him into cooperating, use him and if possible, get rid of him in the long run.

Hard to execute, yes, but the plan itself was easy. Benny didn’t even like it, but desperate problems called for desperate measures. And when he finally found the monster, he soon found out that instead of monster he was calling him Dean, and that where he was initially disgusted by having to work with him he was now laughing and teasing and smiling like hadn’t in a long time.

Dean wasn’t what everyone thought he was, but then again, neither was Benny. But before he could think too much about what that really meant, there was something to take care of. They had work to do.
