The Melkots
Not that an obscure image from classic Trek, but still a very mysterious and oft-forgotten alien race. The Melkots (or Melkotians) are an extremely xenophobic species from the planet Melkotia in the star system Theta Kiokis. They isolated their system using warning buoys but the Enterprise still blundered in, so they dealt with the problem using the most logical method: telepathically creating a surreal Wild West scenario to force Kirk and co to fight for their lives. As you do.
I love the design for this thing. It's a Hallowe'en monster design. The Melkot looks like it's nothing more than a floating head and neck, levitating in the fog that presumably makes up their native atmosphere. Does it have a body? It looks to me like it detaches from something bigger. I reckon there's something even weirder in the fog we're not seeing.
