BIGFISH "BIGLOVE feat HEDKANDI 2012" Twisted Disco.
See it. Hear it. Live it.
Words that could totally describe Bigfish' brands of music. BIGFISH "BIGLOVE feat HEDKANDI 2012" Twisted Disco has brought storm in Manila as they feature Hedkandi DJ Producer Andy Norman together with our very own line up; DJ Naval from Republiq; DJ Karl Ty of Superfly and DJs John Paul Lee and Green representing team Bigfish last March 2 at the World Trade Center.
The World Trade Center was on fire with all the pretty ladies, drinks and chupachups overflowing everywhere. But before the party began, we got some chance to hear some thoughts from our local and international DJs and it was nice being a part of the crowd listening to them.
It isn't DJ Andy Norman's first time here in the Philippines, and he keeps on coming back, why? Boracay's one and his music the first and foremost. He was just as kind and perky as anyone there in the line up as well as DJ Paul Lee who keeps on saving most of the answers for DJ Norman. They were such a great team perhaps knowing each other very well and loving and grooving to the same music that is about to go trending.
The most serious, and perhaps the most important part of the press con was when one of the people in the crowd asked about how the music industry in the Philippines is taking its losing toll, and them, still producing more and obviously, surviving. DJ Green's (?) answer was a high hope of more music and more party to come as well as he has this certain desire to partner with more radio stations in the Philippines aside from magic 89.9 which they have always been and only been from the start. he's looking into the possibility to have more radio stations play their music which is somewhat really near reality since the music's getting pretty famous these days because of it's trance. :))
The press con ended with high hopes and excitement on what's next for Bigfish and the curiosity of what's gonna happen inside! i just can't simply wait! My first time indeed and I believe they didn't fail me.
We were just entering the venue and my eyes are already in awe seeing all of these pretty ladies wearing their white and blue dress and red shoes offering us cigarettes and drinks. Sadly, i can only take the chupachups which was indeed heaven! I honestly don't know how many I've chups since i don't drink nor smoke! Hahaha. And not having my glasses with me was hell, totally but having it would be awful, and so i chose to be in hell and continue the party. We were given the opportunity to get involved in the said press con and party because of Ms. D aka DJ Chloe of Mellow 94.7 (Sounds good) and probably one of the benefits of being a part of Mellow's School of Jocks. Matt, Ant, Lentz, Thaeron and me then went to party as well as to have the coverage of the event.
It was one hell of a great party where we have experienced how to be in a trance, just like a cult. the moment we heard the music, it transformed us and made our body move to the groove! it felt surreal aside from it was real. The lights were amazing the drinks - fascinating, the people - awesome, and the lollipop - the best!
They were giving free tequila to everyone and of course - we dared try it! I was a bit scared when I saw the reaction on Lentz' face the moment he drank the Cuervo but then the drinks are pouring and so we tried despite the reaction we saw.
1, 2, 3 - smell, taste, smell and then gulp! Whoa! So hot! i guess that gave me courage. Haha. That was victory! I was able to drink a tequila straight and it didn't made me feel so drunk at all, just a headache. But it meant nothing compared to the passionate experience of hearing and grooving to live musics where we were totally submerged into the deepest of our emotions, awakened by the hotness of the drinks and unite the people in the World Trade Center into a one happy, grooving, feeling and hollering mass.
Wong Fu Productions in Manila - Mellow 94.7's The Wake Up Show fan account
March 1, 2012
I had heard from the previous night that Wong Fu Productions would be on Mellow's 94.7 The Wake Up Show at 8am. It’s located in Paragon Plaza along EDSA, Mandaluyong. I headed toward Paragon Plaza with the radio on Mellow, but it looked like they weren't there yet. I got to the radio station and true enough DJ Vince and DJ Tracy said on air that they got lost. Their cab apparently brought them to Harrison Plaza instead. Wes and Phil probably got stuck in traffic. I just waited at the reception area, totally nervous because I knew they would probably come in at any moment. I couldn't concentrate even as I was trying to distract myself! I was the only fan at the radio station as well even though I tweeted already about them coming.
At around 9:00 AM, I saw Phil and Wes come in. I opened the door for them and said hi but they probably couldn't tell if I was a fan or not. Phil said hi and Wes waved at me. The staff from Mellow who I talked to earlier and told him I was waiting for Wong Fu also came out and asked me “sila ba? [is it them (you're waiting for)?]” and I said yes. I asked if I could go follow them in the booth and he said yes and even told me to sit down and I could take a picture with them. Phil and Wes were accompanied by two other staffs from the production company, Ms. Pauline Phoon [who was also with David Choi when he came to Manila] and Ms. Wenona Lok. They were seated on the couch 2 feet away from me and I couldn't believe what was happening! Phil didn't have his hair styled so it kinda looked big and he was also wearing a jacket. Wes also brought with him his camera.
I was tweeting like crazy to my sister and I didn't know if I should talk to them or not! My hands and feet were cold and I couldn’t believe they were right in front of me! DJ Vince was talking to them, asking them about their work, how long are they staying and even offered to go out with them that night after the show. Phil and Wes were also asking about their radio show and Mellow, the type of music played in the Philippines etc. They also asked where they could go around if they had the time.
The two were a on their iPhones most of the time when they weren't talking so I couldn't bother them. I was able to snag a few candid photos but I was against the light and only had my iPod touch. When @wongfupro tweeted [which was actually Phil] I had replied that I was the fan in the booth and that I was shy to talk to them. It was really silly! But I was really nervous and didn't know what to do! I don't know if they were able to read it though :P DJ Vince said that the interview was only going to be short since they were just sneaking them in on their show. Wes also took a video of DJ Vince and DJ Tracy's intro for Wong Fu. At around 9:40 they had started the interview. Ms. Wenona was also taking video and since there were some shots where I was directly across the camera, I held up my “Manila Loves Wong Fu” sign and smiled even if I wasn't sure I'd be on cam :))
After the interview, DJ Vince and DJ Tracy took some pictures with them. He also gave them some When In Manila shirts and his card. I was so surprised when he handed me his card as well and I said “Oh no! I'm just a fan!” and he goes “oh! Well that's okay you can contact me too...do you want a picture with them?” I was so shocked and squealing inside! “Um sure!” Then Wes and Phil came over to me and Wes asked for my name. HE ASKED FOR MY NAME OMGGGGG. He also noticed the sign I was holding up and asked me if I made that and I said yes. I was about to bring out my iPod Touch since I didn't have a camera but DJ Vince was already holding up his camera and asked us to take position. Wes was at my right and Phil on my left. After the first picture, DJ Vince said “Wow you sure are fast! We only announced they would be here last night” I said that I was on twitter last night and told myself “I have to meet Wong Fu!” LOL! He took another shot this time with the other side of my sign.
When it was over I heard Wes comment on my Totoro bag and say “I like you bag” I just smiled and showed it to him. BUT OMG THAT MADE ME SO HAPPY >O<. Then I turned to Phil and talked to him. I told him about how my sister went to their Wong Fu Live event in LA last December and asked them to sign a Merry Christmas sign for me. As I was telling them this I as scrolling though my pictures trying to look for the picture of Wes holding up the sign. I was really nervous and trying not to waste time! I showed Wes the picture and he said he thinks he remembers that. “So that's you *points at the word Hazel*” “yeah that's me :D” I also continued with “but since she asked you guys to sign that, she wasn't able to get Wes' signature on her poster.” Wes said, “oh well I could always sign her new one.” “but she's in LA” LOL hahaha! I think he mentioned something like they'll just find her or something. I just told them I wanted to say thanks for that and that the sign is with me now. I also asked Phil if they've eaten breakfast yet and he said they haven't and they'll probably grab something nearby. I told Phil I'll be at the show later as well. I was trying to make conversation I guess :)) They also kept thanking me and even Ms. Wenona thanked me personally. But actually I should be the one thankful! They did so much for me already and it was really nice meeting them!
Wes holding up the Merry Christmas sign my sister made for me. this was the picture I showed them.
They were saying goodbye to the DJs and saying thanks. I let them exit the room first, and then I thanked DJ Vince as well on my way out. I followed them out all the way to the elevator. They used like a service elevator different from the one I rode from the lobby. I waved goodbye to them and they said goodbye as well.
I was seriously on cloud 9 that day! Even before the show that night. The fact that I was able to talk to them and show my support really felt good. And I am super thankful to DJ Vince for taking our picture which also allowed me to talk to Wong Fu. Super thanks to DJ Tracy and Mellow 94.7 as well. Of course thanks to soulmannalive for bringing Wong Fu Productions here! WF4L!

Of Driving and Radio Stations
Having a special someone whose kilometers away from you has its own perks as well. With her, living in Pasay, and me in Fairview, I always have to drive for an hour or two, just to be with her. But it doesn't bore me at all, especially when driving at night.
The radio has been my best friend, especially when driving alone. I even have my own radio routine at night now.
On weeknights, I listen to Boys Night Out at Magic 89.9. Starting at 6pm, they never fail to make me laugh, and at the same time, learn. They also do public service sometimes by giving people advice and sometimes, sharing their own experiences on the issue. Whenever their topics come up, you will surely relate to every one of it, I assure you.
When BNO ends at 10pm, it's either I switch to Mellow 94.7 (Indy and Marco), especially on relationship Thursdays and secret Tuesdays. Or, I switch to Love Radio 90.7. Yeah, lately, I've been fond of listening to Papa Jack. And I must say, I could always relate to everything they say on the show. I've been learning a lot, on handling relationships, and how to react and act to every situation, may be it good or bad.
When Papa Jack's show ends at 2am, I listen to Crossover 105.1, to get me in the mood. They play jazz on slow jam songs most of the time.
On Saturdays, I listen to Jam 88.3. Starting from 6am to 6pm, they play only OPM songs. Yes, I am a big fan of OPM songs, and you should too! Support OPM! And at night, starting from 7pm to 12am, I listen to Wave 89.1's Quiet Storm, where they play RnB love songs and slow jams. If you're a fan of mushy love songs, then listen to the Quiet Storm. You'll never know what song you'd discover from the show. :)
On Sundays, I listen to Wave 89.1, especially during 12nn to 1pm. They play Reggae songs! :D
So, there. Although, IMO, the Philippine FM Radio Industry lost a big part when NU 107.5 stopped airing a few years ago. From what I remember, there was also a radio station where they play RnB love songs most of the time. I think it was in 107.9. Also, during my Highschool days, there was Kool 106.7, and Campus Radio 97.1 WLSFM. The 'No DJ' station, 95.5 also stopped airing, and lastly, my most favorite radio show of all time stopped airing. The BrewRatz. After migrating and migrating to different radio stations, from 99.5 RT to 92.3 (Now News FM. What a bummer).
But I heard, NU 107 is making its comeback this year. I'm looking forward to it!
RF: I'm not fond of babies talking on the radio, and DJ's with an unusual laughter. :|
I think I just heard Tracy and Stan say hi to me on air (or am I still sleeping?)! Haha! :) #FeelingSpecial
fact eleven: If it weren't for this annoying dj whose name I always forget (idk he has the most annoying accent okay), Jam 88.3 would be my favorite radio station.
They play the best songs okay ouo They play nice hipster songs =w= And I guess I'm one of the very few Paulinians who doesn't listen to RX 93.1 because dammit I'm just too hipster I can't even-- No, I'm kidding XD I just really like the songs they play on Jam. They're really nice :D
The only thing that really irks me about it is how one of their djs has the most...annoying accent ever. And when he comes up, I always switch to Mellow 94.7 since their djs are a little bit more bearable. Heehee.
Should I??! I missed auditioning for radio stations... *sigh*
I have a passion for music so I tried auditioning at Magic and Mellow last April and May simultaneously...
Last April, Magic 89.9's annual Junior Jock auditions was held at Red Box, Greenbelt 3 (don't ask for the results coz it turned out REALLY bad). I saw Josh Strike, Mojo Jojo, Slick Rick (wait, I'm not really sure if he really is Rick), and the ever cute DJ Pat. :P Also the courtside reporter Job De Leon was there auditioning whom I even thought of as an ordinary auditionee ONLY at first! :)) And oh, even the 2011 MYX VJ finalist from CSB (I forgot his name, sorry! He's the small dude wearing the geeky glasses though) is a JJ there!
I didn't gave up in my first defeat. A freakin month after, Mellow 94.7 had this SOJ auditions which is going to be held at their station itself along Edsa cor. Reliance Street in Mandaluyong City. There I saw DJ's Chris, Chloe, Kage, and Vince whom I had a little chitchat with (well, except for Vince, for he was one of the judges during the time I was auditioning). I also met my first-ever UST friend, Diane, there. Too bad we lost contact already and to make matters even more depressing after a week or so, I didn't passed the auditions, too... Talk about a one-two punch.
Now I'm thinking, I'm a loser. :/ Should I still continue auditioning despite the loss(es)?
