30 Day Challenge: Day 6

Describe your character’s happiest memory. 

Mainverse: She has a lot of fond memories from her childhood and adolescence, though doesn't have any one particular memory that stands out. A childhood memory that makes her happy is more a collection of memories. Its just her and her sisters gathered around their dad for a story. Or playtime with her sisters. If she had to pick memories during her adolescence, possibly the day she was able to walk past the shoreline to explore the rest of the human world. And, even though things did go sour after, the day James proposed would also be one of her happiest memories. She remembers just being filled with so much joy and hope and dreams of a future with him in it.

Verses in which she has children, the day she found out she was expecting. She'd never been so happy to know she was going to be a mother.

Lost Melody Verse: holding Melody in her arms for the first time gave her a sense of peace for the first time in a long time. She was too overwhelmed with joy at having welcomed her daughter, and her worries eased away for the first time, if only for a little while. Some of her best memories were hearing her daughter's first words, seeing her first steps, and listening to her toddler try to sing along to her nighttime lullabies when she was too wide awake to doze off.

Child of the Sea Verse: Ariel's happiest memories include the day her son and daughter were born. In spite the circumstances and the danger that surrounded her, she had never felt as much love and joy as she felt when she held her children in her arms. She treasures each memory she has of her children, even if those memories are few and too brief.

Swan in a Blanket: Most of her favorite memories involve all of Emma's firsts. First steps, first words, first day of school, etc. The rest of her happiest memories consist of the three of them (James, Emma, and herself) doing normal family things. Picnics, vacations, holiday outings, or just laid back movie nights where they all just piled up on the couch.

Headcanon: Parenting

Ariel is a very hands-on parent. With her mother having perished before she was old enough to remember her and her father delegating most of her her sisters' parenting and education to a governess, she decided she wanted to be involved as much as she could in her children's lives. Also, in having to share what little time their father had among the seven of them, Ariel realized rather young she wanted a smaller family of her own, wanting no more than two or three children. And she doesn't resent her up ringing at all. She loved being surrounded by a large family, and cherishes her father and sisters and admits despite circumstances they are a very tight knight family. It's the close ties she has (or had depending on the verse) with her father and sisters that further reinforce her desire to be an involved parent. In verses where she does have children, she prefers to be the one to tuck her children in and read them stories, much like her father used to. She also prefers to be the one handling most of the care her children need if they are sick or in distress, convinced being looked after by the parent rather than the governess or another member of the court is more effective. That's not to say she is one to neglect her duties as a queen. She works hard to ensure she's fulfilling her duties as a leader and as a mother, which means at times she might stretch herself out a bit thin.
