FROM THE JOURNAL OF PRINCESS AKIRA-SUMMER 1543
Tears are still stinging in my eyes as I willed my horse to go faster. I finally found the courage to be honest with my parents and what do I get? Laughed at! I wiped the fresh tears of my face as I got off my horse and tied the reins to a tree. Sadao must have seen me from the window because he met me outside. I ran into his open arms.
Akira: My father is going back on his word. I explained. He still means to marry me to Prince Sunjay.
Unless, I thought, I can’t marry a prince or anyone else.
Akira: Kiss me, Sadao, kiss me and take me to bed…
Sadao: Akira! Have you lost it? You know as well as I do that I take your virginity, your father might put us both to death.
A: I didn’t care. I kissed him more deeply than I ever had before and hand and hand, we entered his house. In the bedroom, Sadao asked me if I was sure, I nodded and start to undress him…
Hours later, I kissed his sleeping lips and rode back to the palace. Sure enough, my parents were right there as soon as I entered.
Takiyo: Where the hell have you been?
A: With the man I love, and guess what? I’m no longer a virgin!
T: You gave the servant your maidenhood?
I nodded proudly and that when my father slapped me.
T: You whore! Why would you do that?
A: Isn’t it obvious, Father? I’m ruined now. I can’t marry Sunjay or any other prince now. I’m honor-bound to marry Sadao and only Sadao!
T: You little fool! Now that you gave him what he wanted, you’ll never see him again.
I was shocked that when I turned, I saw Sadao, behind me, bowing to my father.
S: Your Majesty, I love your daughter and I know that I’m not worthy for the hand of a princess, but I will be someday, if determination and hard work will do it.
T: Such noble words from the man that just seduced my daughter!
A: That’s not true! If anything, I seduced him!
Father ignored me and continued to raged at Sadao.
T: Give me 1 good reason why I shouldn’t order your death here and now?
S: Because I’m leaving tomorrow and you won’t see me again until I’m as rich as any prince.
T: Then I guess I’ll NEVER see you again!!
After 1 last sneer, my father seemed to give up and walked away. Sadao leaned over and whispered in my ear.
S: Meet me at the temple as soon as you can.
So, for the 2nd time that night, I snuck out of palace and met Sadao at the temple.
S: I’m not sure when we’ll meet again my love, but I promise to return to you a better man.
A: You’re already the best man I’ve ever known.
Sadao then said he would feel better about leaving if we married tonight just in case I was with child. I didn’t see the need, after all, we only did it once, but he talked me into it. We found a monk and wed on the spot.
