imagine this: melone is bitter about how prosciutto broke off their relationship and seemed to forget about what they had. but prosciutto broke it off because he feels unworthy of love, feeling like melone deserves a better partner. melone wanted to make things work and feels like prosciutto simply gave up while prosciutto feels like their relationship was doomed from the starts and wants to rip the band-aid off before things get worse. sometimes none of them wanted to be in the same room together. sometimes they find themselves in the same bed again, reliving the passionate love affair that they had for just a few hours one. melone always said their relationship can start over but prosciutto is too stubborn to be vulnerable and admit why he kept pushing the other away. 

and maybe this all escalates to the moment where melone finds prosciutto’s body mangled near the train tracks and that’s why he was in shock in the manga / apathetic in the anime.
