Moon: What are you currently studying/hope to study?

I'm learning how to art! I've filled up a sketchbook and started a second one this year. I'm very much a beginner but it's an interesting challenge.

I also want to get back on the language study horse, both for German and Japanese. And maybe for something else?

Hydra: Favourite sound?

Typing on a typewriter or a mechanical keyboard is best, but any sort of regular tapping sound. Failing that, the sound of fresh veggies being chopped.

Aaah @melviships thank you so much! I’m a sucker for domesticity in general but I feel like in his situation where he has so much fighting to do, Albert deserves some peace, y’know? He manages to stay himself despite all the ways he’s been forced to change, and I just admire the hell out of him for that.

Have some Cyborg Squad brotp silliness. Warning: copious amounts of Shakespeare. (specifically, Henry IV (part 2) and Henry V, with a teeny half quote of Macbeth)

Pairing: Liz x Albert ( plus the cyborg fam) Wordcount: 1100 Featuring: A battle, Shakespeare (as mentioned above), shapeshifting shenanigans Warnings: brief descriptions of violence

Albert dropped down, his knee popping open. A moment later, a missile shot straight for the enemy tank.

Liz watched, admiring the trajectory as the enemy soldiers in the tank scrambled to get out of harm’s way. Somehow, they did. They always did. But the tank lit up, and she was forced to shield her eyes from the resulting blast.

When she dropped her arm, the tank was no longer there, and the enemy was running for their lives.

“Hah!” G.B. crowed. Literally, as he dropped down from the sky, out of the crow-shape he’d chosen for himself and back into his own body. Seeming to bounce more like rubber than human, he stretched back up into ‘himself’, pressing a hand against his own puffed-out chest.

“He which hath no stomach for this fight, let him depart!” G.B. declared in his best ‘performance’ voice. “His passport shall be made!”

“G.B., focus, please,” Jet grunted. He was kneeling beside Albert, gun in hand, aiming upward. “Or better yet, fight.”

“I can’t help it!” G.B. took a moment to look affronted. “Honestly, you all have no sense of timing. Or style.”

Liz couldn’t help it. “We can talk about your ‘style’ when the hurly-burly’s done.”

The group froze.

Jet looked dismayed. Albert paused to quirk a brow in her direction, as if to silently ask, “Really?”

And G.B.?

Surprise flitted across his face, followed by a growing delight.

“Oh, no,” Jet grumbled. He tucked his gun away. “Al, we’re going up.”

“Right.”

Albert had just enough time to snap his knee back into place before he was being swooped up into the sky toward the enemy fighter jets. An aerial battle ensued, complete with Jet twisting about in the air like a dancer while somehow keeping Albert steady enough to fire with his gun hand.

G.B., meanwhile, was beaming at Liz. “When the hurly-burly’s done? When the battle’s lost and won?”

“Oh my God,” Liz heard Jet groan over the radio.

“Yes, G.B., that is the reference,” Liz said, unable to help but smirk.

G.B. seemed to brighten even further at that. Turning toward where Chang was blasting another tank with his fire, G.B. cupped his hands around his own mouth to shout, “Did you hear that? A woman after my own heart! She quotes Shakespeare!”

Chang didn’t bother to chime in over the radio. All Liz saw was him shooting G.B. a brief thumbs up before diving into a hole he’d burned into the ground himself, only to come up under the tank, fire a’blazing.

“G.B., the mission,” came Jet’s annoyed growl.

“Of course!” G.B.’s hands dropped from his face, only so he could point at an oncoming unit of robots, putting on his performance voice again. “You there! Hear me! Our battle is more full of names than yours! Our men more perfect in the use of arms!” He paused, turning to Liz with an air of expectancy.

Liz blinked. “...You changed plays on me, dude.”

Rolling his eyes dramatically, G.B. continued. “Our armor all as strong! Our cause the best! Then reason will our hearts should be as good!”

The unit of enemy robots seemed unmoved by the declaration. If anything, Liz could have sworn she saw some of their optics squinting, either in confusion or annoyance.

Rolling her sleeves up, Liz started forward. “Shakespeare later, fight now.”

“All right all right, but did you at least recognize which play?” G.B. marched after her, reaching for his navel but not yet pressing it.

“…Henry IV?”

A broad smile crossed over his face, and G.B. shot her a wink. “You and I have things to talk about later, my dear.” With that, he pressed down, and transformed into a large trampoline. “But first! May I interest you in a boost?”

Liz contemplated.

Then, with a grin, she took two, three, running steps, and leaped up on top of her teammate-turned-trampoline.

She went flying. It wasn’t anywhere near or as high as what Jet could do, but it was enough to send her hurtling right into the center of the unit of robots. Feet-first, she bowled several over.

“Not a strike? You were robbed,” came Pyunma’s comment over the radio.

Liz chuckled. “I’ll accept a spare.” She whipped around to put her fist through the torso of a robot coming up behind her.

The battle didn’t last much longer after that. The humans on the enemy’s side had long since fled, and without them there to direct the robots and automated jets were easy to knock out.

When the all-clear came from Francoise, Liz started to stagger back toward the rest of the group.

“Everyone all right?” Francoise asked once Liz was in proper earshot.

Liz shrugged. She knew she would be hurting once the adrenaline wore off, but she didn’t see any major injuries she’d need to patch up.

She was relieved to see the same was true for Albert, too, as Jet touched back down. Landing lightly on his feet, Albert glanced over in her direction, offering her his gun hand. Knowing it would be hot, Liz took it anyway without so much as a flinch. He smiled at her in reaction.

“Let’s get everyone back to the Dolphin for a debriefing,” Albert said. “If these guys are popping up in this desert all of a sudden, they must be hiding something good nearby.”

“Or distracting us from whatever the ‘good’ thing is,” Jet said. He was running a hand through his own hair, making a face at whatever he was feeling.

“Let us be off then,” G.B. said with a bright grin.

Jet shot G.B. a flat stare. “Are you done quoting that old junk at us?”

G.B. didn’t look offended. “This ‘old junk’ is as relevant to us today as it was the day it was penned, my good friend!” He paused, and his smile turned sly. “And no, I have at least one more for today. We, we happy few-“

“Okay,” Liz cut in, watching Jet’s eyes narrow in warning. “Yes, we get it, we happy few, we band of brothers, let’s just get on the ship, huh? I don’t know about the rest of you but I desperately want all of this battle-gunk off before I run out of energy.”

Albert gave her hand a gentle squeeze. “Agreed. Let’s go.”

The group started off. As they did, Liz felt someone give her shoulder a friendly pat. Glancing over, she saw G.B. was beaming at her again.

“We’ll be discussing this later,” he reminded her, and with that picked up the pace so he could match stride with Chang.

“Look what you’ve done,” Albert whispered, a lopsided smirk growing on his face.

Liz let out a soft laugh. “I don’t mind, really.”

“Good. Because I think you’ve made his day, Mausi.”

Liz gave Albert’s gun hand a squeeze. She didn’t know if he could properly feel it, but he at least saw the effort, because his smirk softened into a smile. “C’mon. Let’s get home so maybe I can make yours, too.”

“You do, every day.”

A smile growing on her face despite herself, Liz let herself be lead back home.

I'm afraid I haven't been keeping up with your long fics (my brain is a mess rn and mass text makes me Anxious) but I still wanted to say: keep doing what you are doing. What I have read of your work is awe-inspiring; and even how you talk about fanfic, and treat it like the literature it is, is amazing! I hope you are doing well in your little corner of the world and that you continue to be a little ray of hope. 🖤

Please don’t worry about “keeping up” with anything--I’m just happy to hear from you! Whenever I see a reference to Archive 81 now I automatically think of you and wonder how you’re doing.

You are far too kind re: my writing. But I appreciate what you said about treating fanfiction like literature. I firmly believe that it is! It is just as deserving of analysis, re-reads, discussion, and appreciation as traditionally published works we celebrate. And yes, I include self-indulgent drabbles, WIPs, you name it, under the same umbrella term of “literature”.
