@byanyan asked for a Lore Drop AND this promised lore drop tagging @tamedgod as well <3
The origins of tensai powers can be traced back to Theia, the Greek Titan goddess of sight, prophecy, and the shining light of the clear blue sky (aether). Theia, the daughter of Gaia (Mother Earth) and Uranus (god of the sky/heavens), bore three children of her own: Helios (the Sun), Selene (the Moon), and Eos (the Dawn).
Helios, the Sun, is the father of ELEMENTAL TENSAI - the group of tensai most connected to the earth, who control its growth and healing, or its harm and destruction, and is responsible for the elements that thrive upon it.
Selene, the Moon, is the mother of PHYSICAL TENSAI - the group of tensai of ethereal origin, least connected to the earth but still able to exist and shine upon it, with limited influence on its nature, and home to those misplaced and hidden in the dark. She is the origin of those who hold the light of the moon brightest in their eyes.
Eos, the Dawn, is the mother of MENTAL TENSAI - the bridge between the Sun and the Moon, with pieces of the soul connected to both; ethereal and supernatural, blessed with a bright glow of their eyes; and also connected to humanity and able to feel its warmth, and walk among them freely. Mental tensai may choose a home in either, but are also disconnected, their place among the tensai unsure and their reputation uneasy -- leaving the choice of the light/humanity or dark/supernatural in their hands, often blurring the lines between them both.
The glow of a tensai's eyes were granted to them by Theia, who provided them with divine light, which they carried on thousands of generations.
Should a tensai discover a second ability, a white, glowing sigil will appear on their forehead - a symbol combining the Sun, Moon, and Dawn. Its appearance will depend on which two abilities have been achieved, and their corresponding elements: Mental/Elemental (Dawn, Sun), Mental/Physical (Dawn, Moon), Elemental/Physical (Sun, Moon). There have been no recorded instances of a tensai achieving all three (🤫).
The mark is temporary at first, only appearing with use of a Direct Action (such as causing emotions, in Yuki's case, or acquiring an ability, in Hayden's case) and will fade once said action has been completed. However, through evolution of the two tensai abilities, the mark becomes permanent, and glows brighter/dimmer in response to its strength.
