Quaritch and Lyle are sitting around one day, when Lyle notices the tendrils on his kuru, "Man, these things are freaky as hell.", Quaritch notices, "I heard the Na'vi connect them together, Dunno why. Apparently it does things to their brains." both look at each other with curiousity and determination, as Quaritch already pulls up his hand to grab his own kuru and brings it close to Lyle's.. As they touch, Both of them wait for something to happen, Lyle carefully observing, "Well this is underwhe-" Quaritch says before their kuru's fully engtangle themselves in on each other, as their eyes dilate... Inspired- actually, not even inspired its literally just this art https://www.tumblr.com/looiepooie756/805947479891820544/these-edibles-aint-shit?source=share
The lab smelled like antiseptic and bad decisions, two things Colonel Miles Quaritch had grown uncomfortably familiar with since his rebirth in this alien flesh. Across the makeshift table, Corporal Lyle Wainfleet flicked at his kuru tendrils with the nervous energy of a man who'd just realised his new body came with built-in vulnerabilities.
"Man, these things are freaky as hell," Lyle muttered, watching the neural appendages twitch like startled eels under his touch. Quaritch didn't answer immediately; he was too busy rolling the idea around his skull like a loose bullet casing, the Na'vi did something with these things, something intimate, something that turned two bodies into one nervous system.
Lyle's kuru lashed sideways suddenly, brushing Quaritch's forearm, and for half a second the colonel felt it, a phantom thing, a whisper of connection that vanished before he could name it. "I heard the Na’vi connect them together, no idea why… does things to their brains, I dunno." Lyle said, shrugging.
Quaritch exhaled sharply through his nose, something between a scoff and a dare, then grabbed his own kuru without hesitation—rough, like he was seizing a rifle—and shoved it toward Lyle’s twitching tendrils. "Well, ain't science about experimentation, Corporal?" His grin was all teeth.
Their kurus touched, hesitated, then twisted together like live wires dropped in water, snapping, writhing, locking. Lyle barely got out "Well, this is underwhe—" before his pupils blew wide, swallowing the blue of his irises whole. Quaritch’s breath hitched; his vision doubled, tripled, then collapsed inward like a dying star.
The lab dissolved. Colours inverted. For a fractured moment, Quaritch was Lyle— felt the phantom ache of old scars, tasted the metallic tang of adrenaline from a firefight years gone, smelled cheap aftershave and gunpowder, and beneath it all, pulsing like a second heartbeat, something vast and alien, something that knew the shape of the trees outside without eyes.
