"I said we should have skipped the party.” Vida laughed as she stumbled into the room behind him. If there was one thing she couldn’t stand it was the large parties her father threw whenever one of his children were visiting. This time around it just happened to be all of them together at once. “We could have gone to dinner and shown up at the end when everyone had been drinking and wouldn’t have noticed us in the first place.”

Vida was used to long days at the office but it was rare that Stanley had meetings that she didn’t sit in on. After all she was his assistant so it made sense to have her there so she could take notes and things like that. But today seemed different so instead she was reading over some paperwork that had been sent over so she could give him a run down of it when the conference room door opened. Getting up from her stead she picked the papers up and placed them in their folder before smiling at the man Stan had been meeting with. But before she had a chance to say anything Stan was heading towards her.

“She is the best person to have a conversation with.” He smiled at her before cupping her cheek and pressing his lips to hers. “Sorry that one ran late but George here wanted to get dinner since he kept you so late but I had to tell him we already had a reservation.”  

She managed to keep the surprise from her features since they were never that open about their relationship at work but it was clear the man had been saying things about her in the meeting. Nodding she smiled at George. “We do but I’m sure we can call and get another person added. It never hurts that we’re there almost every week.” When the man cleared his throat and shook her head she nodded again. “Alright.” Her smile was bright as she looked at Stan, “I’m going to put these away and we can get ready to leave.” Leaning forward she kissed him.

The entire bathroom was a mess and there was really no way around that when Vida was pulling everything out of the cabinets trying to fix the imaginary wound her father had. Well it wasn’t imaginary he’d nudged a pan and burned himself and she’d taken it upon herself to fix it. “Found it!” She grabbed the aloe her mom put on them when the got sunburns and could hear Val laughing from the doorway. It was the only thing the little girl had seen used when someone had a burn and that was the same as a sunburn wasn’t it? Either way she was going to use it. So she put a glob of it onto his hand before grabbing the gauze that had rolled across the floor and starting to wrap his hand in it, ignoring the way the aloe seemed to seep through the first few layers. Once she was done she looked around for a moment. “Mommy I can’t make it stay.”

Val nodded before grabbing a bobby pin and walking closer to the two. Really she couldn’t give the five year old a real clip or she’d end up stabbing Juan and start the whole thing over again. “You can use this to hold it, do you want me to do it?” When Vida nodded she slid it into place before nodding. “Good job.”

The little girl grinned before kissing the back of Juan’s hand. “All better.”

Vida tapped her pen as she waited for Stan to come out of his meeting. Maybe it made things a little awkward at the office when it came out that the two were together but she enjoyed knowing that her relationship with Stan wasn’t a secret anymore. It was just a little harder when she knew her father might dislike her relationship more than Izzy’s which really wasn’t fair. After all she wasn’t the one dating a cop, just a very attractive older man. When the conference room door opened she smiled and held the file closer to her chest. At least it was a short one so she knew he would still be in a good mood and that was what really mattered. It was the smile that made her stomach flip. “Good meeting?”

“It was.” Stan let his hand brush against her back as they walked before pulling it back as they walked into his office before the door shut behind them. They might be openly together but Vida had still said they needed to keep things a little professional. “I usually like them more when you’re there.”

That only made her smile grow. “I like being in there with you, not that I pay much attention to what’s happening.” The brunette admitted as she put the folder down in front of him. “But there are some papers for you to sign.” Taking a small step back she folded her arms in front of her stomach as she waited.

He nodded before opening the folder and starting to scan the page. Flipping it over he paused before picking up the small black and white photo that was laying on top of the next page. “What’s this?” He smiled for a moment as he looked at the blurry image before it seemed to dawn on him what he was looking at. “Vida.” He smiled as he looked over at her. ‘Is that?”

She nodded. “Our baby.” Reaching out she tapped the little blob in the middle of the image. “That right there is our baby. They said it’s measuring about seven weeks.” Vida took a step back when Stan stood to give him a little more room to move the chair back before she was pulled into his arms. Vida let out a laugh as she wrapped her arms around him and their lips met.

Vida closed her eyes as she tilted her head back. It was nice knowing that no matter what went on outside the room he’d be able to hear if either of their little ones woke up. Katherine tended to be up every few hours and usually they were able to calm her down before she woke up her brother. “I like this.” The brunette sighed as he rubbed shampoo into her hair. Part of her wanted to turn around in his arms so she could press closer to him but she was too tired for things like that. Maybe when Katherine was a little older and slept better but it had only been four weeks since she was born. She shivered as his hand moved to the back of her neck before she let out a laugh. “I don’t understand how we’re sitting in hot water and your hands are still cold.” It was almost funny that the temperature difference between the two of them never bothered her but it was always obvious when they were like this.

"Stan?” Vida slowly unfolded herself from where she was curled up on the couch wrapped up in Hosea’s arms while Izzy and her mother helped with her children. He was covered in blood but the look in his eyes told her not to be concerned about his well being because it wasn’t his. It was almost funny that a few days earlier seeing all that blood would have made her stomach turn but she didn’t have the same reaction to it now. Not since her husband had been forced to turn her after Joel left her for dead. “He’s gone?” Her voice was small as he came closer to her and she did her best to push back the memories of what had happened. Joel had deserved whatever happened to him, he’d taken away her ability to say goodbye to the sun, to be changed on her terms, and had almost left her son and newborn daughter without a mother. The small nod from Stanley was all she needed. “Good.” She whispered. “I hope it hurt.”

“Stan.” Vida’s voice was low and she tried to sound as calming as possible. The one good thing about his office was that it was sound proofed or the men on the other side of the wall would be able to hear them. “They’re always going to look at me like that. You knew that when you started seeing me and when you had Hosea and I start working here. Just ignore it. I do.” The looks made her uncomfortable and she was thankful that the fact she was free meant none of them would put a hand on her and that there was no asking Stanley for permission like there would have been months earlier. But she was a human working for a vampire, some of them were always going to look at her like she was on the menu. “Lets just be happy none of them look at me the way Joel has.” She was afraid of the way he looked at her. “Right now you need to finish the meeting and ignore the fact that they’re treating me like dinner.” There was a pause before she looked back at the door. “Now I’m going to go back there before they start looking at Hosea like that. I wont be as pleasant if that happens.” Brushing her lips against his cheek she moved to head out of his office.

Who said “I love you” first: If we want to be technical Stanley said it first, after Vida asked if he loved her.  Who would have the other’s picture as their phone background: Stanley. Vida’s keeping things quiet. Who leaves notes written in fog on the bathroom mirror: Vida, usually when she has to leave early. Who buys the other cheesy gifts: Stanley Who initiated the first kiss Vida Who kisses the other awake in the morning: Stanley Who starts tickle fights: Stanley Who asks who if they can join the other in the shower: Vida likes to get into the shower with him, it saves water after all.  Who surprises the other in the middle of the day at work with lunch: They work together so there’s no need to visit the other.
