Thought I was strong enough to resist watching The Bear but then I saw a gifset of Carmy crying. So now i'm 2 episodes in.
His dad had told him many times that the definition of a real man is one who cries without shame, reads poetry with his heart, feels opera in his soul, and does what’s necessary to defend a woman.

When did men stop crying in media?
I was watching some old tv (Feb 1969 episode of Hawai’i Five-O) and the lead role (tough guy, Det. Steve McGarret) is crying. His nephew died and he’s crying about it. There’s no ‘don’t look at me, I’m crying.’ He’s not ashamed of it.
He’s not well -lit, but you can see the tracks of his tears and he’s talking to a co-worker (fellow detective, Danno). He doesn’t hide that he’s crying.
I know it didn’t happen often. Usually men are shown as angry, etc. But men cry, too (or should). When did they stop crying in media?
