#mendmay2020 Day 30 STOP(P) this prompt confused me. Google has STOPP as either an anti Planned Parenthood group 🤬or some kind of medical monitoring thing😳INSTEAD, I give you THREADS OF MEMORY The blue I used on yesterday’s FINISH and while looking at the spool, remembered getting it for a blue jersey knit dress project sometime in the early ‘70s. And I remember wearing that dress at a party at my house on De La Guerra in Santa Barbara, dancing the night away, 1975 or 76. The ochre I used for a blazer that I sewed from deer hide. Also early ‘70s. Mom drove me to a tannery in Gloversville NY, where I got several hides for only 20 cents a square foot. Somewhere I have a box with scraps, the garment is long gone. Also sharing The Thread Drawer. #mendmay2020 Day 29 FINISHING Today, during two Zoom meetups, I put the FINISHING touches on this memory scrap piece that I started for a collaborative series under the auspices of @shoebox_pr entitled, “Call and Response” My co-artist was @klcloonanart It’s a grid of meaningful scraps, arranged in rows by decade, ‘70s, ‘80s, ‘90s, ‘00s, ‘10s. #mendmay2020 Day 28 THIS TOO SHALL PASS One can only hope. My attempts at mending the #crazyquilt have turned into moments of subterfuge trying to work around the Lou interventions. My #mendmay posts have turned into The Lou Show. Some day I will get this patch sorted out. Today is not that day. Other things not working: 1) can’t get the serger threaded correctly despite invoking the lightbulb gods (see post in @annembray.art ) 2) I changed this IG to a Creator account and now I lost the Facebook cross-posting linkup. Sigh. #mendmay2020 Day 27 CONDITION I’ve already mended the patch in the worst CONDITION, back on May 1st. This one is the current contender. I keep tripping on it getting to the couch, which is making it worse. It’s from lovely rayon yardage that I found at Pilgrim Mills in Providence in the 80s. I sewed a tunic with it that was in heavy outfit rotation when I had to get dressed to go to work (haha). #mendmay2020 Day 25 METAPHORICAL A patch can be METAPHORICAL. This corduroy specimen, for instance came from the wasbund’s pants. At first, I covered the part that needed mending. Then I decided to cover up the whole thing. Out of sight, out of mind. After my now usual battle with Mr Lou, I got the section all stitched. On to the next mend, another item from the wasbund, this one all frayed, just like the marriage. #mendmay2020 Day 24 HISTORICAL There’ are so many stories tied to the patches on the #crazyquilt Today I’m covering the HISTORY of the black and white nylon jacquard knit. It’s a tubular knit that Patucci gave me in the 80s, to make items for her shop in Providence. It is wretched stuff. I cut some for a skirt and it is SO uncomfortable. However, I discovered that if it’s cut into strips and pulled, it makes a cool looking yarn that looks kinda like ikat.
