My friend Sharon found this fabric and saved it out for me. It’s a fine lightweight wax print (Looks the same on both sides of the fabric, unlike standard printed fabrics). I have a purple batik caftan dress that came from somewhere in Africa (the storekeeper was not sure where). It’s so comfortable that I wanted another. I traced the measurement of the side seams and reproduced them on this garment. I re-used a neckline i’d used on another self-drafted dress. It is so light and airy to wear! Perfect for summer. There’s only one photo today. What day is it, anyway? I’m posting from several days ago for #MeMadeMay #MeMadeMay2022 - This vest is maybe the most fun thing I have made as an adult. It was intended to be a Halloween costume, but it’s so fun I wear it regularly. The front and back panels are printed with black cats (I had one for 17 years) and the side panels have smallish black dots that coordinated. They were Halloween fabric from @joann_stores when I worked there. I made a short purple batik circle skirt the year before, that is perfect with it (see final image). I couldn’t find it the day of this photo, despite it being hanging in the closet in it’s proper place that evening. Go figure! The top was thrifted years ago. The skirt I also thrifted around that time. It is knit, but not top down in a circle. It was knit from the back seam around to the back again, and then beginning/end sewn together. I needed it to be about 2-3 inches larger just at the top. I unpicked the seam at the top, inserted two layers of cotton-lycra/spandex black stretch knit as a triangle gusset and sewed it into the opening. It works GREAT! Since I don’t ever tuck things in, nobody ever could see anyway. #mendmay2020 Day 28 THIS TOO SHALL PASS One can only hope. My attempts at mending the #crazyquilt have turned into moments of subterfuge trying to work around the Lou interventions. My #mendmay posts have turned into The Lou Show. Some day I will get this patch sorted out. Today is not that day. Other things not working: 1) can’t get the serger threaded correctly despite invoking the lightbulb gods (see post in @annembray.art ) 2) I changed this IG to a Creator account and now I lost the Facebook cross-posting linkup. Sigh. #mendmay2020 Day 16 MATCHY Stepping away from the Crazy Quilt, I started a MATCHY mend on this @garnethillpics duvet cover that I use by itself as my summer bed cover. I also use it as a sheets pita when traveling because I hate bargain motel sheets. Because of fact number two, I needed to retain the full length of the thing and not just make a new seam and enclose the holes. I remembered that I had a king pillow slip in the same (German) flannel. I pulled all the stitching in that and was happy to discover that edge-to-edge it was longer than the end of the cover. Naturally, I had supervision. Quite behind on #MeMadeMay #mmm18 - Tuesday broke me entirely. I spent that evening in my sewing room, feeling that I should stop trying if it was going to be so hard. I repair and alter summer clothes more than sewing from scratch. I knit more socks/accessories in cold weather, too. Anyway, Wednesday I wore these #socks (white Smartwool sock liners from maybe 20 years ago). I experimented with two types/three colors of fabric "dye" (more like paint or ink) about a year ago. Before that, I #darned a small hole in the right sock. That's all I've got for Wednesday. #visiblemending #DarnItMeansfixKnitting #mendMay
