This week has been my last week working on Men of The North and I have been adding the finishings and fastenings and then breaking down the costumes ready for the location photo shoot on Monday.
I feel that my costume is working well and has been broken down suitably so that they fit the character that they were made for. This was the first time that I have broken down costumes for a production and I was unsure at first about how far I should go because you cant take back the breaking down. However I just worked bit by bit on the sections of the costume that would be used and worn down each day and checking each stage is suitable. Also it is better to build up wear in layers because it looks more believable like this. Once I was happy with the amount of breaking down I had done I checked with Yolanda that she was happy from the designers point of view. We decided that Cadoc wouldn't be broken down as much because to be more ethereal and swift through the forest so wouldn't be as dirty as the other characters. As well as this we didn't want to take it too far as you cant get dirt back out of the suede. With the Ranger costume I took the breaking down further because he would be riding through the forest more and he original comes from the North so the weather would be harsher on the garments. Yolanda is really happy with the breaking down and how they now fit the character much better.
I am really excited for the photo shoot tomorrow because I haven't yet seen the costumes finished in the actors with the context of the forest and among the other characters.
This week has gone really well and I am really happy with my progress, I have created to good costume which interpret the designs and suit the character. I was original unsure with how to do the breaking down and how far to take it, but I just worked on this bit by bit and I feel my breaking down has been successful and they will work really well on camera.
Below are pictures of the costumes after breaking down.
