Entre Well-being (Entrepreneurship ✕ Well-being) ─ Realize Your Brave 〜Passion makes Possible
Introduction
Hello everyone, thank you for coming today. My name is Peaske, and I manage a company called TECHFUND.
In this year, our company established a branch in Singapore as a part of an expansion plan. Since now more than half of our clients are from overseas, most of our associates are foreigners as well. Because of that, improving my English is a priority, so I joined Heroes English.
This event is titled ”Realize Your Brave”, so I will do my best to talk so that everyone can catch my braveness.
Today, I would like to talk about my main life philosophy, which I call “Entre Well-being”.
“Entre Well-being” means that, by creating a startup or being an entrepreneur, you can improve your well-being physically, mentally and socially.
Well-being by Entrepreneurship
By the way, I believe the philosophy of “People won’t live another life, people must find happiness in this life.”
There is a lot of pressure in the world, like chaotic information, judgement by other people inside and outside of the company, family troubles, et cetera. But, instead of being misled by such pressure, you should live your life in your own way.
I think that happiness is an opportunity that everyone deserves, and that what happiness is depends on each person.
In fact, Japan ranks as 3rd highest GDP in the world, being a strong economy country. But, as a surprise, Japan ranks 58th in Global Happiness ranking this year.
Also, I met people from alternative culture circles, like hippies and yoga enthusiasts. They are not economically rich, but they practice mindfulness and other healthy habits and look happy.
These data and experience show that what happiness is depends on each person, and I think that the process of well-being that realizes happiness is important.
But how about my self?
When I turned 30 years old last December, I had the opportunity to deeply think about if I am really happy with who I am. As a result, I found out that I’m not happy.
I know that lots of people supported me in my life, and I don’t blame them for not being happy.
However, I am not happy even if I focus on the physical, mental and social aspects of well-being.
When I was in my 20s, I was wondering if I was even heading towards happiness in the first place.
It’s become a serious complex and it has been affecting me until now.
“I don’t live the life of others; I should live my life happier.” I used to believe creating startups is the best solution for this. However, I think I need to find what startup means to me.
For so, today, I am talking separately about 3 topics, which are the physical, mental and social richness of entrepreneurship, in my updated view of it.
Today, many managers and entrepreneurs joined this event so I’m expecting that this talk makes you think about what you think of “startup business” and “your way of life”.
Physical richness
I believe it’s easy to have an image on what physical richness is.
You may have the image that it means that you don’t get sick, you are satisfied in your five senses, walk, run, go to gym, et cetera.
I am a trail runner, and I can get happiness by that. I can’t get this happiness by any other means.
At first, it was so hard to run 10 km, but, after that, running downhill is exciting. I get more focused as I run more and more.
Physical richness is written in a book called “GO WILD” by John J Ratey. so If you are interested, read this book.
Mental richness
Just like the physical benefits, you can also easily think about mental benefits.
You may have the image that you don’t become sick by thinking healthily, and can’t be reached by anything. Your mind is at ease and you don’t have any concerns. Most people would tell that these are the main characteristics of mental richness.
But I have my original opinion about being mentally rich.
I think that the three most important elements are: Number one: to be relaxed; Number two: to keep your mind stable; Number three: to keep your anxiety at a low level.
I don’t use the word “mental health”, instead I usually use the word “comfortability”.
This is because the term “mental health” cannot cover the mental problems that occur in social media and advanced social communities in the modern world.
For example, I feel comfortability in my daily life when I focus on one painting at a museum.
In the business scene, I feel comfortability when my goal is clear and we reach an agreement. I also feel comfortability when my colleagues become positive and focus on that goal with creativity, and overall, when that goal is tangible and measurable.
I think that mental richness is what brings these situations together, because they make me feel relaxed, my mind stable and my anxiety at a low level.
Such mental richness is being researched to be applied in corporations and I will try it at my company.
Since there are lots of entrepreneurs today, I would be happy to talk about that with you later!
Social richness
Finally, I will share my original idea about social richness with everyone. What do you mean by “socially rich”?
I read many articles and documents on the internet to try to understand what socially rich means. But, still, I couldn’t understand.
When I was thinking and researching, when I was thinking about what kind of social role I can achieve, I realized that, by connecting company to society and by outputting my idea to society, I am doing my role in the society through my startup business.
For me, Startup business is a method that realizes social engagement through business. Startup business is a method that an individual can output own lifestyle.
As a result, now I know that I can fulfill myself, and that such lifestyle brings social richness.
Message(Closing)
So, today, I talked about “Entre Well-being”, that can be achieved by physical richness, mental richness and social richness.
I hope that my speech becomes an inspiration for you to think about your own well-being.
Thank you for listening.
