But basically, Exandria was completely flooded and taken over by the ocean, all the history that suggests a life above the sea is old and up for debate.
Some researchers are trying to figure out what happened, and why there is ancient art and text that suggests that tieflings, elves, orcs ect once needed boats to travel the seas and had *legs* (this is the AU version of the cobalt soul!)
Some researchers have been trying to piece together and learn ancient forms of magic that the old surface dwellers used to have, many of them are trying to figure out why some are born with it and why some are gifted it, and how some can connect with the land beneath the sea so strongly that they become one with it. However they have been practicing the *old* ways of magic that nearly anyone can learn (with enough study and dedication,, that most people don’t have the time for.)
Caleb specializes in the old ways of magic and dedicated a lot of his life studying it, he’s particularly skilled at heating water to the point where it damages things around it. Raynard, like in canon, is a druid but,, ocean version!
Their relationship is the same as in canon, Raynard is learning wizard magic from Caleb.
