I know I haven't been posting art as much as I used to -- real life is very busy :(. Anyway, I um, drew something Harry Potter again. I wanted to see if I could draw Snape and Harry in the same picture since Snape is one of my very favorite characters and I really like the idea of him taking on a mentor/ally/parent role for Harry. Putting aside the canon animosity between them, I'd say there's a possibility: Snape's pretty adamant about protecting Harry. A lot of the story behind this picture came together as I was drawing it, but I tried to convey a sense of vulnerability and strength in both characters. Harry is about 13 or so with the ragged clothes and thinness from a Dursley summer, and his expression is quiet but he's not frightened or disgusted by the proof of Snape being an ex-Death Eater. For his part, Snape isn't revealing his dark mark because he's angry or cornered. It's more of a gesture of honesty, of wanting Harry to know the worst of him. They're each seeing glimpses of the other's less-then happy past, and it's all part of a necessary conversation about trust.
When drawing, I generally kept to how the characters are portrayed in the films but of course I had to make Snape's hair longer. :) There are some technical things about the drawing that are bothering me but I like the feeling it conveys of quiet beginnings, of understanding who they both are.
