In simple terms: pre-workout = simple (AKA "quick-digesting") carbs. Post-workout = protein.
Examples of good pre-workout food:
Whole wheat bagel with jam
Protein shake/nutrition bar with added carbs
Oatmeal with fruit
Greek yogurt
Bananas
Eggs (any style)
Crackers + cheese/hummus (hummus is better)

Lean meat
Eggs
Greek yogurt (Chobani is super awesome)
Cottage cheese
Tuna & other fish
Quinoa
Milk
Black beans
Nuts
You may notice that there's a bit of overlap between the two categories; these overlap foods are beneficial to both, but it's probably better to eat 2 different things (rather than the same overlapping item) for the pre/post workout snacks. Variation is key to health & fitness, in every way.
