Mercy was known to have knowledge within the Mer community about herbs and other healing items, it was useful with all types of mer and the wounds that can come from accidentally interacting too friendly with some. However Octo!Mer were extremely rare and very unlikely to be seen, something she didn't know the right forumla for, she needed someone she could test her formula on, and after the collapse of the coral reef and her friends Jack Morrison and Gabriel Reyes, Gabriel being the only Octo!Mer in the colony she took his dead body and began her experiements. What she brought back however, wasn't the mer she knew. When Talon Colony attacked the Overwatch Colony and took Gabriel's body she was distraught because her experiements were not done. Leaving a decaying monster in the deep sea.

Mer!Mercy Headcanons

-She’s really fast and absolutely loves swimming and exploring new parts of the ocean -Loves learning about all the different kinds of fish in the ocean, and does all she can to help any injured creatures she finds in the sea -Along with animals she loves watching humans performing everyday activists and will watch them from a distance too nervous to actually interact with them -If she somehow ever meets a human face to face after getting over her nervousness, she will ask them tons of questions -The questions will range from the most complex human emotions and ideologies to simple things like what's the purpose of toilet paper -Will rescue any human she finds stranded in the ocean, but tries to make herself as unseen as possible

She watched the fireworks with pure amazement. The bright lights streaking across the sky until it exploded in a bunch of lights and was met with the enthusiastic crowd’s collective awe. She looked at the mass of people gathered along the boardwalk and saw the pure wonder on the children’s faces. She couldn’t help but smile, the pyrotechnics display always fascinated her. Her favorite part was to watch the reflection on the stiling ocean current. The red, yellows, greens, and blues captivated her sight and almost made her long for a life on land. But she knew that she would never truly be happy on land, she cared too much for the sea and everyone who lived in it.
