The plot and lore between H2O and Mako Mermaids don’t match up because they were never meant to. Mako was intended to be a spin-off (like an alternate universe) of the main series, with its own lore and its own story. I’m not too sure why Jonathan M. Shiff brought Rikki on board for the finale of Mako Mermaids, but I feel like it was more of a nod to the fans of the original. It’s a nice thought, but at the same time it kind of breaks the intended plot. If I had the chance to talk to Jonathan, I’d ask him why he brought Rikki back, and possibly ask him about the plot holes between the original and the spin-off because of this move.
