Hey! I saw a Tumblr post about "jumpscares" and I'm totally confused on what that is. Like gifs where things jump out on you? Have you had any experiences with anyone who has truly been triggered by that? I've never heard of people being triggered by that/never thought of it and I'm just really curious. Thank you!

A jumpscare is any video or gif that looks normal/benign and then has a “surprise” ending where it drastically cuts to something scary. It’s usually something coming at the screen, morbid, or just generally plays on people’s fears. Videos also typically include an extremely loud sound at the moment of the jumpscare. Literally anything can be a trigger, so I imagine there are people that have been triggered by jumpscares. However, I think it’s more typical that people are just genuinely afraid of them. People with anxiety issues may not react well, while those with sensory processing difficulties may be even more susceptible to them and become frightened easily. There are many reasons why jumpscares can be problematic for people.In short, jumpscares are a dick move.
