So, your job is basically touring around with bands, hanging with them, seeing the world, and meeting awesome people?!
No. I am a Merch Manager. I wake up, load in, phone call to the manager, count in, do merch pull to fill in the missing items, count in with the venue rep, put up all the displays, organize everything, grab a quick bite, emails from manager, go deposit cash, phone call from manager, wait for the other artists to show up, phone call from label, place them, fit in a shower somewhere during this day. Quick dinner. Doors in 15 mins, go to merch, polish the table, fix the displays, deal with a security guard(s)/ venue staff who wants free shit (they dont get it). Doors open- Same questions over, and over for 5 hours. 10-15k later, headliner goes on thus means “quite time”- Run to the truck to grab anything we are low on for the post show rush. Take a deep breathe- Band ends- SELL. Venue kicks everyone out, I organize all the shirts again, count out, wait around for the venue rep to come by. They either say the phrase “Oh Ill just go by your numbers.” YAY or the dreaded “Nope, lets count out together”, Then I sit and count out again with them. Pay them, Load out, do paper work, (It’s 1 am). SLEEEEPPPP. Wake up- Do it again.
I have gone full days without seeing some band members. I, along with the crew, rarely see the world; but we can tell you every detail about every venue. The phrase “meeting awesome people” goes about as far as the band/ crew because the majority of them are good apples.
Hey followers and lurkers. As most of you probably know I am a tour manager, and every now and again I talk about myself and touring. I try not to do it too often, but it is a great way for me to get the word out about myself and possibly get hired for a gig. I made another tumblr as an online resume. So if you're interested in where I've been, what I've done, and with whom I've got it in one nice and easy place for you to look at! It was cool putting this together, it brought back a lot of fun memories. I'm pretty lucky. Anyway without further ado here it is: http://imamirhasan.tumblr.com/ I will update it after every tour, but you don't need to follow it really, and please feel free to share this link with anyone, reblog about it, tweet it, share it with a friend in a band. Thanks a bunch!
