Ok right sacrificing the council or saving them
For me it depends on which Shepard I am playing at the moment (My canon is four Shepards fighting together as a team). In their individual runs, three of them sacrifice and one saves. My actual ‘canon’ is that only two of them really have an idea of what choice to make, and the Shepards ultimately save the council simply because Rizo makes a better argument than Gláucio lol. He says that saving the Destiny Ascension will cost human lives that will inevitably be needed in upcoming battles (true) and also fuck the council, they have actively made peoples’ lives more difficult than needed (also true). Rizo says this is bigger than humanity (true) and allowing the council to die will be seen as a power grab and cause massive political fallout (also true). Basically they argue until Dickie acts as tie-breaker, and they save the Council.
But I still don’t know if that’s the right choice?? Like it’s really easy for me to understand my characters’ motivations and choices in the game but personally, idk what I would choose. Playing both sides give the comfort of knowing both outcomes, and in the long run I do think sacrificing the Council makes it easier for important shit to get done - the replacement Turian and Salarian councilors are far more willing to negotiate and are sometimes respectful, even if the replacement Asari councilor is...not. But given how the main tension in ME3 comes from either of the potential Asari councilors lying about their beacon, I find that idgaf what the Asari councilor thinks of me anyway. As far as I can remember, the only real handicap with the new council is they don’t reinstate Shep as a Spectre in 2 - which is already a superfluous action imo.
idk like i could be talking out of my ass but in my canon at least this decision is Important and I guess really I think saving them hurts the overall war effort in the long run lol
