My place of employment is doing their annual employee recognition banquet on Saturday and it’s 1940s themed (it’s our 75th anniversary) so naturally that meant that I had to sew a period appropriate dress. Pattern was originally created in 1944 (75 years ago) and was recently reprinted. There was a lot of swearing, a Raiders of the Lost Ark rewatch, a couple of episodes of TaleSpin, and a near emotional breakdown over shoulder pads - but it’s done.

It’s been a week and a half since my surgery and all in all I’m back to normal. The gas dissipated by last Monday, so I could move around again without feeling like there was intense pressure on my shoulders. I started the pain med wean on Wednesday. One week ago I was off the Good Stuff and on to a high dose of ibuprofen three times a day (four times the amount you can get in the OTC variety) and then on Wednesday I switched to the ibuprofen with breakfast and dinner and I’ll probably be on a single dose into next week. The incision in my navel is the worst offender pain-wise, probably because there was more tissue to cut through than the one on my pelvis. At this point I’m just on the ibuprofen to keep the pain to a bare minimum (as in if I move juuuuuust right it hurts like a motherfucker, the rest of the time it’s a dull ache) and keep it from distracting me from what I need to be doing.
I’m really glad I decided to push the start date back for my new job to the 21st so I didn’t have to worry about getting through my first week of work.
Going in for surgery in four and a half hours and to be perfectly blunt I’m fucked because my blood sugar is going to be so low that I’m going to be sick and miserable before I even get to the hospital. So here’s hoping that they can put something in the IV to get the blood sugar back up and stable before I’m wheeled into the OR because otherwise I’m going to be having a really bad time.
On the one had, I like keeping Christmas decor up through January 6th since that’s the Epiphany and the “traditional” end of the Christmas Season but on the other I’m having surgery three days after and I don’t want to spend those days leading up to said surgery trying to get Christmas packed up and put away for the year.
