Melusine: A Merfolk Race Mod 1.2/2.0 Progress Report 11
Previous Report | Next Report | Development Log
Hello readers, and welcome to the eleventh progress report for Melusine: A Merfolk Race Mod 1.2/2.0!
In my previous report, I posted screenshots of an unfinished mermaid tail, but I never knew how unfinished I was until I started experimenting with baking textures! The entire time between the previous report and now, I have been experimenting with this to give the tails a natural reflective look. With everything I have done to achieve that so far, I hope I have created something pleasing to the eyes of most merfolk lovers, as well as something even those with low-end computers can enjoy looking at. The tail is still not finished, however, as there are a few issues that need to be taken care of. (The scales appearing to concave instead of convex, as can be seen in the screenshot above, and the lack of the extra fins from the previous report.) Once these issues have been resolved, I can finally call this tail done, and go back to work on animation. For those who want a koi tail with colored spots (as I’m sure most of you were expecting...), don’t worry; that will come. Maybe not in version 1.2, but they will come.
With that being said, I’m sorry to say that the next report will be delayed to mid or late next week. These textures significantly change the way they are shared across all tail meshes and, therefor, they require more time to be created than the textures from 1.0. With all the work that needs to be done for every tail of all supported body variants, I need more time than 3-4 days. I know that’s a lot of time to get things done for this project, but I have been feeling strained lately from working on it, and I want to take some time to relax. I hope you understand.
That’s all for this post! What do you think of the base tail you see in screenshot above? Besides adding the extra fins from the previous report, do you think there’s anything I can do to improve it? Please let me know in the comments, or through personal message! Thank you for reading, and I hope you all will have a pleasant week(end). See you next week!
A mermaid collab commission I did, All non ink credit goes to Iggi, who did the coloring and background of this piece. You can find her here https://www.furaffinity.net/user/iggi
The OC mermaid in this piece belongs to Procene, you can find him here.

Many more mermaid collaborations coming in the near future!

Greetings readers, and welcome to the seventh progress report for Melusine: A Merfolk Race Mod 2.0!
Unfortunately, I don’t have much to show this time, due to a few things that happened last week. But I do have a bit to write about. First, to cover what I have done between now and the previous report, I added slightly more movement to the arms and fin in the animation shown in the previous report, to add more fluidity and make the arms more shield-friendly and look less broken. Also, even though I believe a mermaid tail like this would be an extension of the spine and, therefor, having a beast tail and a mermaid tail at the same time would not be possible, I decided to animate the beast tail anyway for those who might want to have it in the water. (Merfurs, maybe?) I hope you’re ******* appreciative. :-P.
Anyway, I have been thinking about the future of this mod and, after exchanging a few messages with a fellow Nexus modder, I decided, to make the wait easier, I’m going to release alpha/beta builds of the mod as I continue developing it. The next release, version 1.2, will implement non-weapon-based swimming animations, placeholder tails, and other minor tweaks I made over the months. (Topal and Abecean Melusine will finally have eyelashes. Woohoo!) I cannot give a release date, as doing so usually curses/jinxes myself to not meet that deadline, but I will do my best to release it as soon as possible. Even with only the basic animations, there is still much work to be done. You can view the Melusine: A Merfolk Race Mod Development Log here.
One more thing before I end this report: the tail you all have been seeing in the past GIFs and videos of these progress reports will be used as a base for the Eltheric Melusine tails, as the plan is to make them based on koi fish. To give myself a short break from animation, I would like to create an entirely new tail that will be used as the placeholder tail for 1.2, and will later be released as a ‘tail illusion’ in 2.0. (More on that in the roadmap.) For the placeholder tail, are there any designs you would like to see? Do let me know in the comments!
That’s all for this report. Next, I will be working on sideways swimming, as well as reading and considering feedback (if I get any) on what you the readers would like to see as the placeholder tail. Thank you for reading, and I hope you all will have a pleasant week!
