The equipment covered includes Avaya Definity and Merlin systems, as well as certain components and handsets. Prolonging the life of older infrastructure components is a direct result of Avaya's focus on hybrid IP telephony solutions. Revised residual valuations and life-cycle assumptions reflect the new market dynamics of nonconvergent networks, which is likely to be the preferred implementation vehicle for the next few years. "Avaya's hybrid VoIP approach has prolonged the life of older infrastructure components. Older-generation components will continue to be in demand to satisfy the needs of the large Avaya customer base," says William Roch, research director, IDC's Leasing Evaluation Service program.
