Mermen and Flower Crowns
For @hdcandyheartsfest 's prompt: Hand Made CW: Mermaid Draco Rated: G Read the sequel here Draco was resting against the wall of his tank, his webbed hands stretched out in front of him, while his face was smushed against the wooden planks that jutted out into the water, giving him a few meters to splash, without completely soaking his carpet. He was tapping his fingers against the wood, humming to himself gently. As soon as he saw Harry, he perked up, his eyes lighting with excitement. "Harry!" Harry couldn't help but smile, Draco was always so happy to see him. "Hello. How are you this morning?" Draco righted himself, his long, shimmering tail flipping back and forth, as he fidgeted. "Good." He dove beneath the surface, racing towards the sandy bottom, only to return a moment later with an ornage, rubber crab. "Fetch?" Harry took the toy from him and tossed it as far as he could, hearing it plop into the distant waves and sink towards the coral below. Draco let out a joyous squeal and leapt out of the water, flipping over backwards, as he chased after it. When Draco returned with the crab, he took it and set it down beside him. Draco began to pout, his lower lip wobbling and sticking out. "Fetch?" "In a minute. I wanted to give you something." Draco perked up, his eyes widening, as his disappointment about the crab was forgotten. "What is it? Show me. Show me." He clapped his hands together, unable to hold himself still. Harry pulled his wand out, summoning the gift he'd made for Draco from the other room. It was a hand-made flower crown, crafted from pink and red rose buds. "Here." "What...?" Draco took it in his hands, poking at the petals with awe. "What is it?" "It's a flower crown. Do you know what day it is?" Draco shook his head, sniffing at the flowers, before he attempted to place them in his mouth. "No, don't... Don't eat it." "Sorry." Draco looked down, his pout returning. "No eat." "It's Valentine's day." He continued, hoping that Draco's frown would disappear again. "Do you know what that is?" His eyebrows furrowed, giving him a puzzled expression. "No." "Well, it's a holiday." He tried to think of the best way to describe what it was. "It's... Well, it's about celebrating the ones you love. You can give gifts, like flowers or chocolate." Draco tapped the flower crown again, before he placed it on his arm like an oversized bracelete. Harry realized Draco probably had no idea what a crown was either. He reached out to take the ring of flowers, wanting to help Draco put it on properly. "No." Draco held his hands away, tucking the flower crown against his chest. "My flowers." "I'm not going to take them. I just..." He supposed it didn't matter if Draco wanted to wear it on his arm. "I wanted to put a spell on it, so the water wouldn't break it apart. Is that okay?" With a skeptical expression on his face, Draco nodded and passed the flower crown back to him. He placed a Strengthening and Resiliancy Charm over the flowers, before he set it on top of Draco's head. "There you go." Draco's nose wrinkled, as he looked upwards trying to see it. After a few seconds of struggling, he removed the crown from his head and placed it back on his arm, looking rather happy with his gift. "Thank you. Nice Valentine's day." Harry smiled. "Yes, nice Valentine's day."
The prompt for this one was ‘flood’ from @drarrymicrofic
It’s still mermay, so I’m still allowed to post another mermaid!au. Also, this turned out far longer than I intended... woops!!
Word count: 914
Drarry microfic: flood
Cw: mentions of human sacrifice (but not really and nothing graphic)
The people called it The Flood.
It happened every 19 years.
It was a simple agreement between them and the villagers: a sacrifice in return for keeping the small village safe from any harm.
And every 19 years, they would wait on the rocky shores of the island, their scales the only colour against the dull grey of the stones and the water.
Harry knew it was time. When he had awoken that morning, he had known.
So he wasn’t really surprised when two men of the village came barging into the small cottage he had managed to build for himself not long after he turned of age. He wasn’t surprised when they hard-handedly took him outside, not leaving him any time to say goodbye to Flo, the old stray dog he had found a few weeks earlier.
However, he didn’t put up a fight. It would be a futile attempt, anyways. He couldn’t escape what was about to happen. He had been chosen for a reason. He was the village’s only hope of survival.
The mayor greeted him on the rocky shore, her eyes soft and apologetic. Harry had always been rather fond of her.
As Harry stopped in front of her, she put a gentle hand on his shoulder and squeezed. “I’m glad you chose to come willingly, Harry. It makes this whole situation easier for everyone.” She smiled, or at least she tried to. Harry could easily see the pain shimmering behind her spectacles.
“It’s not like I have much of a choice”, Harry said, shrugging.
The mayor sighed and squeezed his shoulder again. “You and I both know I wish things could have been different.”
I know”, Harry smiled softly, “I know it’s because I’m the Chosen One.”
Rolling her eyes, the mayor shook her head. “I can’t say I’m going to miss your ‘brilliant’ sense of sarcasm.”
Harry chuckled. “You love my jokes, Minnie.”
“Yes”, she whispered resignedly, “I do.”
Before Harry could answer, she turned away from him to face the ocean, her hand falling from his shoulder as she did so.
“By giving you this young man, we thank you for all you do to keep our village safe!” Her voice echoed over the surface of the water.
Nothing happened.
Confused, Harry watched as the mayor nodded her head and started to walk away. “Goodbye, Harry,” she said as she looked back over her shoulder, “You will be missed dearly.”
Harry swore he saw a tear running down her cheek when she turned back around and strode to the village, leaving him standing alone on the dark and suspiciously empty rocks.
Weren’t they supposed to turn up now? Weren’t they supposed to come collect him? Why weren’t they coming to get him?
The sudden splash of water against the rocks made Harry turn around.
And there… only a few feet away from him, sat one of the most stunning creatures he had ever had the blessing of laying his eyes upon.
The Siren in front of him looked like pure silver, with long, white, almost translucent hair adorned with pearls and shells. Glistening skin that slowly merged into the silver scales of a long tail.
Harry had heard stories before, about the creatures’ beauty and the dangers they could inflict with their Song. Many people in the village even claimed to have seen one.
But no story could ever describe anything as breathtakingly gorgeous as this.
Curious silver eyes looked at him. “Do not be afraid, young human”, the Siren spoke, their voice melodious and soft. “You will not be drowned today.”
Harry squared his shoulders and righted his back. “I’m not… I’m not afraid of you.”
The Siren smiled, revealing a row of sharp teeth. “Of course not, you would have been long gone if you were.”
Frowning, Harry took a step closer, before realising he probably shouldn’t. Though, the Siren didn’t seem to mind. “I don’t understand”, he said, “aren’t I supposed to be ‘sacrificed’?”
“Yes, and you will be, young human. But I have not chosen to drown you.”
“I’m still not sure I understand what you’re talking about.”
The Siren chuckled, shaking their head. And something… something in Harry told him he could trust them. A strange feeling in his chest told him he could trust the oddly charming creature in front of him.
“I want you to join us”, the Siren said softly, “I want you to become one of us.”
“One of you… you mean…?”
The Siren nodded.
“Okay, but why…?”
Frowning, the Siren tilted their head. “Why wouldn’t I? Your beauty is too valuable, too precious for the ocean to just wash it away.”
“You… you think I’m beautiful?” Harry asked, bewildered. Nobody had ever told him that. Nobody had ever cared enough to say something so… nice. He could feel his cheeks warming.
“Of course”, the Siren said, confusion lacing their voice, “why would I lie?”
And that was all it took for Harry to give in. He crouched down in front of the Siren’s bemused face, his knees scraping the rough stones.
“Take me”, he said, no, begged, “please, take me away from here.”
The Siren reached up to cup Harry’s cheek. Their hand felt cold against his burning skin.
“You have to promise me one thing, though”, Harry whispered, his eyes closed as their foreheads rested together.
“And what would that be, young human?”
“Please… never leave my side. I… I don’t want to be alone anymore.”

Draco was waiting for him expectantly, his flower crown still dangling off of his arm, as he opened the door to his room and stepped inside. He was carrying a plate of fish, which had just finished thawing. Sitting down beside the edge of Draco’s tank, he crossed his legs and set the plate down on the edge of the platform, so Draco could eat at his leisure. Although, Draco was fidgeting and acting rather nervous, as he glanced between him and the water below. Worrying that something was wrong, he extended his arm and invited Draco to come closer, as he knew that he loved hugs. Draco did not hesitate to throw himself into his arms, soaking the front of his robes. He gave his back a gentle pat, before he released him and leaned back, so he could look at him. “Are you alright?” Draco nodded, although he had a strange expression on his face and was starting to flush pink. “Yes.” He still didn’t know why Draco was acting so strange, but he didn’t see any injuries on him, and he figured if he was upset about something, he would know. “Okay. That’s good.” Draco’s face finally lit up in a smile, as he whispered, “Be right back,” and dove beneath the surface of the water. Harry watched him swim away, his white tail glistening in the lights, as he descended towards the sandy bottom. He returned a moment later, holding a pink scallop shell in his webbed hands. Draco leaned against the wall of the tank, fidgeting with the shell for a moment, before he held it out to him. “For you.” “Oh?” He took the shell from Draco, admiring its color. “This is very pretty. Thank you.” Draco’s face was bright pink, as he tapped against the wooden planking at the edge of his water. “Turn it over.” Flipping the shell over, he found that Draco had written him a message with his waterproof crayons, which were currently lodged in the grooves between the wooden boards. The letters were bright red and messy, but still legible. ‘Happy Valantynes, Harry.’ He couldn’t help but smile at Draco’s misspelling, as he knew he’d never actually shown him how to spell Valentine when he’d told him about the holiday. It was adorable, and he was going to keep the makeshift Valentine’s card forever. He didn’t want to make him feel bad, so he figured he would correct him on the spelling later, when they practiced writing together. “Oh, this is wonderful, Draco. Thank you. You did so well writing this.” Draco was chewing on his bottom lip, his face growing even more red. “You like it?” “I love it.” He opened his arms once again, letting Draco burrow against him. “That was so thoughtful of you. Did you make me this because of your flower crown?” Draco clung to him as he always did when they hugged. “Good friend.” His face wrinkled, as he quickly corrected himself. “You… You’re a good friend.” “Yes, we’re good friends.” He assured him. “Can I keep this?” He gestured to the shell, figuring he should ask, just in case Draco wanted it back. Draco nodded, his nose bumping against his shoulder. “For you.” He gave Draco a gentle squeeze. “Thank you. That was very sweet.” He thought he would cherish Draco’s gift forever, and he knew just the spot to keep it, so he’d never lose sight of it.
Home
for @hdcandyheartsfest 's prompt: Home rated: T CW: Mermaid Draco, Minor Injury, Hurt/Comfort A sequel to this Draco was lingering near the far corner of his tank, fiddling with something in his hands. He found this rather odd, as Draco was always enthusiastic to see him and wanted hugs as soon as possible, he never stayed away. Harry scooched closer to the edge of the platform, crossing his legs, as he waited. He supposed Draco would come over when he was ready, even if he was starting to become a bit worried that something might be wrong. Draco kept glancing back at him, before he would look away again, all while keeping his back turned to him. It was certainly strange behavior for him. After a long while of waiting, he grew too concerned to continue doing nothing. “Draco?” Draco seemed as if he was tensing, as he slowly turned to look at him, although he didn’t come any closer and was holding one of his arms behind his back. He wished Draco would come over, so he could see him properly. “Is everything okay?” Draco nodded, although the expression on his face was the opposite of okay. “Can you come here for a moment, please?” There was a long pause, while Draco stared at the water, his lips wobbling, before he finally sank beneath the surface and swam over to him. Resurfacing beside him, Draco stayed close to the wall of his tank, keeping most of his body submerged and out of sight, aside from his neck and head. Draco glanced down and then looked back up at him, only to look away again a moment later. “In… In trouble?” “No. You don’t get in trouble with me. Remember?” Grey eyes found his, lingering for a moment, before they turned away, brimming with uncertainty. “Yes.”
The prompt for this one was ‘caught’ from @drarrymicrofic
The seed has been planted in my brain. Expect this little microfic to be turned into a longer fic somewhere in the future. I’ve already got some good ideas 😏
Word count: 749
Drarry microfic: caught
“Can we get some help over here?!”
All heads of the men on the deck turned towards the two men struggling to hoist in the big net.
We must have caught a lot today, Harry thought faintly as he ran to help the other fishermen.
Even with a dozen men of the crew helping, it took them a good 15 minutes to bring the nets onto the deck. It seemed as if something was trying to pull it back into the water, some kind of force that prevented the net from surfacing.
“There must be thousands of fish in there!” One of the men exclaimed excitedly as, slowly but surely, the net broke the surface of the water.
However as the net finally landed on the deck, Harry noticed there weren’t only fish in there. A bigger creature, half human, half fish, was trapped amongst the fish. Yet as the fish flapped around, trying to find a way back into the water, the creature looked at the fishermen surrounding the net, bright frightful eyes scanning their surroundings.
Harry had never seen anything as beautiful as this… this creature. The sun was barely above the horizon and still, the few rays reflected golden off its silvery-white tail.
What in the Seven Seas did they catch?
“What is all this ruckus about?” a booming voice called out from the quarter deck above them.
Harry instinctively straightened as their captain observed the mess they had made of the main deck. His beady eyes easily fell on the catch of the day.
“Well, well,” he said, a nasty smile blooming on his face, “it’s been a while since I’ve caught one of these beauties.”
One of the men stepped forward, his ginger head bowed as he addressed their captain. “We don’t know where the Siren came from, captain.”
A Siren?
Harry looked back at the creature. He had heard stories about Sirens. People always described them as vicious creatures, trying to lure men into the water to do God-knows-what with them.
But as Harry looked at the Siren curled up onto the deck, he couldn’t for the life of him believe anything as beautiful as this could be so cruel.
As if feeling Harry’s stare, the Siren turned to look at him, silver eyes observing him curiously.
Harry quickly looked away. He could already feel his cheeks turning red despite his sun-kissed skin.
The Siren made a questioning sound, causing Harry to glance back. The creature was still looking at him, a question shining in its eyes, though Harry couldn’t fathom what the Siren was asking of him.
The sound came again, but it sounded more distressed now. The Siren wiggled its body around on the wood, its long, pale hair falling in front of its eyes as it reached out a webbed hand to Harry.
“Potter!” Harry flinched at the sound of his name being called. “What in Poseidon’s name are you doing to our Siren?!”
The captain was next to him in a flash, one of his calloused hands painfully grabbing the back of his neck. “I’ll only warn you once, boy,” he snarled, his unpleasant breath ghosting of the side of Harry’s face, “you will not come near that creature or I won’t hesitate to throw you to the sharks.”
Harry gulped loudly, his eyes fixed on the ground.
“Am I understood?!”
“Yes, captain”, Harry answered quietly.
The captain let go of his neck and turned around to address his men. “Alright, I think this calls for a feast!”
The crew cheered loudly, already starting to prepare the feast. The captain turned back to Harry, a sneer plastered on his scarred face.
From the corner of his eye, Harry could see the Siren looking between them curiously. Harry didn’t dare look in its direction.
“Don’t forget what I have told you, boy”, the captain said, before calling to two men, “Weasley! Finnigan! Bring our special guest to his new quarters!”
As the two approached the Siren, the creature scrambled backwards, its eyes filled with a fear so intense, Harry almost reached out and took the Siren away.
Though he didn’t, because if he did, he knew the captain would happily get rid of him. And then he had nowhere to go anymore…
Harry clenched his eyes shut and turned away from where Weasley and Finnigan were dragging the Siren down to the lower deck. He tried his best to ignore the desperate, helpless sounds coming from the gorgeous creature.

The prompt for this one was ‘metamorphosis from @drarrymicrofic
It’s a little something that’s been in my head for a while and I really wanted to turn it into something bigger. I might actually, when I’m done with my other WIP 😏
Drarry microfic: Metamorphosis
The water touched his bare toes. It was cold but oddly inviting. It had never been like that. Not until he had met him.
A pale blond head poked above the surface a little further in the water, bobbing on the rhythm of the waves.
He was waiting for him. It was time.
Harry took a step forward, the water now caressing his ankles. But he didn’t stop there. He kept walking. Farther and farther away from the rocky shore.
Draco met him when he was already shoulders deep in the cold, salty water. His pale arms wrapped around his waist to keep him steady. “You are ready?”
It were three short words. Draco had never spoken with too many words. His English wasn’t that good. They didn’t communicate like that down there.
Harry could only nod his head. He was ready. As ready as he would ever be.
It wasn’t like he had much to stay for anyway. He was an orphan without any friends. A child even the pirates, that visited the village frequently, weren’t interested in taking him with them on their adventures.
So what did he have to lose?
Before he knew it, Draco’s cool lips were on his and Harry felt completely lost. There was nothing else besides Draco.
He didn’t even notice how he was pulled underwater.
He didn’t notice how his lungs slowly filled with the freezing water.
He didn’t notice how his legs morphed into a long, dark tail - a fair contrast to Draco’s pale one.
It didn’t matter anyway. Harry finally felt like he belonged for the very first time in forever. And everything had changed by a simple Siren’s Kiss.
