Merpeople don't kiss as much as humans do. Instead, they rub their tail fins together in a specific way.

So, when Luke and Aemond (in human form) are chilling together on Luke's couch and Luke starts a bit of playful footsie, he doesn’t understand why Aemond goes red and why he's so slow and gentle to return the touch with his foot. They haven’t kissed yet, so Luke is all confused whether Aemond means that as flirting or what. Meanwhile, Aemond is over the moon because he thinks he has a boyfriend now.

I would be so excited if you'd get around to writing the merman au at some point and I'll be looking forward to the headcanons. I kinda see Aegon as the merman who'd flaunt his pink scales (love that btw) for Jace, shamelessly flirting with him despite the language barrier, while Aemond is more easily spooked and shyer with Luke. Also, the image of Jace getting a big assortment of sushi while wondering if he's going crazy and sharing them with Aegon on the side of his tub is sending me

Oh, totally! Aegon would flutter his pink tail fins at Jace and compliment him on his pretty freckled nose (yes, I'm giving him freckles here). Jace wouldn't understand a word, of course. But that tail is so beautiful. And he wants to touch it to see if it’s real or if he's hallucinating. Aegon knows a few English words, since he always sneaks out, wanting to escape into the human world. He learnt how to say fish, and he asks for it. Stunned, Jace brings him one, and suddenly, Aegon is flashing him a row of razor sharp teeth and wolfs the whole thing down.

Meanwhile, Aemond hates humans. He lost his eye because of them. He hasn't been to the shore since. When Luke accidentally pulls him out, he's in flight or fight mode, trashing and snarling and trying to hit Luke with his tail despite the ropes he's tangled in. But he just tires himself out. He lies there, panting, his pupil huge as Luke approaches with a knife. He doesn't understand what Luke is mumbling to him (Shh, it's okay, you're okay), but he's gathering all his strength to hit him if he comes close enough.

Ahhh, I love the merpeople love language!!! Now I can't get the image of Luke teaching Aemond how to kiss out of my head, carefully avoiding the other's sharp teeth. It also makes me question, does Aegon know what kissing is? Cause he knows some things about humans. I could see him go all in, shove his tongue down Jace's throat (maybe his understanding of kissing is pretty vague) while also rubbing his feet against him. I'm so in love with this AU!

Precisely because of the sharp teeth, merpeople only do closed-lipped kisses. Even like that, kissing on the lips is considered kinky. They don't have sharp teeth when they're in human form, but they rarely get intimate in that shape - Aemond never - so French kissing is simply not a thing.

So, when Luke leans in for their first kiss, Aemond turns a fraction away so that it lands on the corner of his lips.

Luke pulls back to frown at him only to find him completely flustered (by Aemond standards of course). He leans in again and presses a kiss to Aemond's cheek this time, and Aemond just melts into him. Let's him kiss all over his face, his eye closed, his hands holding Luke tight and his feet caressing Luke's. Who knew that chaste kisses could be so sensual?

Days later, when Luke eventually manages to explain that humans kiss on the lips, Aemond is wary about trying it. It doesn't sound appealing to him. But then it happens, and - Luke's lips are so soft. They feel plush and plump as they press against his, and then there's tongue, and Aemond is scared. He doesn’t want to hurt Luke, not even with his not-so-sharp human teeth, but Luke whispers words he by now understands, It's okay, so he lets Luke part his lips.

For the longest time, he just holds his mouth open, careful not to move so that Luke doesn’t cut his tongue on his teeth. When Luke draws back and laughs, he wants to call the whole thing off even though it felt good. Deliciously sinful. But then Luke tells him to copy him. That it's not going to hurt. And Aemond is so weak for that temptation that he does it, licking cautiously at the seam of Luke's lips and then his hot mouth, and it's explosive. He has never felt this turned on before. His whole body is burning, and he's making a sound no decent mer should but it seems like he left all his decency behind. He doesn't think he'll ever be able to give this up.

Aegon knows what kissing is. Real kissing, not that sorry excuse his people do, he thinks. He's not as uptight as his crab of a brother, he likes to experiment. He spied on human couples having sex on the beach multiple times. So, when Jace closes his eyes for that first kiss, about to lean in, Aegon has full confidence in what he's doing. Sure, it's his first try, but he knows humans have soft teeth so he's not nervous at all. Goes for it with relish. Okay, it's a bit weird to stick his tongue down someone's throat, but he kind of likes the choked-off sound Jace makes. Jace tastes pretty sweet too. Yeah, Aegon has human kissing down perfect, thank you.

Side note: you know what else merpeople don't do with their mouths, right?

😂 And then he just lies about all day, sunning himself on a rock near the shore so long that he gets dry and his tail splits into legs. But in this universe, this transformation hurts, so he's also ugly crying. But he's too much of a mess to move back into the water.

When Jace finds him, he thinks it's just some weirdo drunk who sunbathes naked and is a complete disaster. Since Aegon just mumbles unintelligible stuff to him (in merfolk language), he decides to take him home to help him sober up. Aegon thinks, fuck it, he doesn't feel like going back to his prince duties just yet, so he stays around for a few days.

This is why Aemond gets caught by Luke - normally, he wouldn’t swim in those waters, but he's looking for his stupid brother.

Ariel moment where Luke is drowning underwater and merman Aemond saves him

Maybe, Rhaenyra reconciles with Alicent and accepts to take the Driftmark throne as her inheritance. But Vaemond doesn't like that - he had a pact with Otto, and he was supposed to be the next ruler of the place. So, he's dead set on getting rid of Rhaenyra and her sons. He attacks Luke when he’s out on his boat and the sun is setting. He figures that means the body won't be found since the night is about to fall.

But there's something that he didn't know. Luke isn't alone that day - he was going to have a date with Aemond. A few minutes after the attack, Aemond reaches them. He could hear the struggle and knew something was wrong, and he tried to swim as fast as he could, but Vaemond is already gone and all he finds is Luke's destroyed boat and a sinking body.

He dives after Luke and drags him out to the shore, frantically rubbing his chest (he doesn't know CPR) and pleading. He's sure a human couldn’t have survived so much time underwater, but he can't accept it. He's crying when Luke finally stirs, coughing up some water.

😅😅 I mean... That's certainly an interesting thought... 👀 It would undoubtedly come up at one point, knowing Lucemond!

But I'm still stuck on imagining Aemond's beautiful hair floating in the water, the iridescent scales of his tail as the light catches on them and makes them glitter, his lilac eye glowing underwater...

Or Luke's tan arms as he tries to calm the trashing creature he has just pulled out of the sea, his brown curls windswept and smelling like sunshine, his hands warm on Aemond's cold, damp skin...

And their first words to each other, Aemond hissing Who are you? in a language Luke doesn’t understand, and all Luke can do is gape, What are you?

I loved this question! It was so hard to find references though... All of them are iridescent and slightly darker on their backside compared to the front.
